"I meant partners as in partners in crime, you ignorant cat. Changelings shouldn't have other kinds of partners, much less nychs, since they shouldn't exist in the first place." He gave a derisive nod at Nec, sneering in disgust. "I'd advise you to stay away from him, cat, he's nothing but trouble and will drag you down with him."
Nec visibly flinched at the tone when the name called him that, even if he knew he technically was right. Yes Nec knew he was right, but he didn't have to say it did he?! "I think he's my father" Nec muttered to Jasper. His posture was an odd mix between obstinate aggression and fearful submission. Years of conditioning warring with his new knowledge of how things worked with freedom and friends.
"On the first guess, I'd almost be impressed if I cared." The stranger looked at Jasper. "My name is Odhran, if you must know. And feel free with whatever light you'd like." The smile he offered was half evil and half something else equally concerning.
"I think the big one. Heavier for when I bing your bloody head in." Moving out from behind Nec, she looped an arm around his waist. "And ohhh. Cause see, you made it sound like we were having sex. So you might want to be more up front and clear to begin with. Also. You hypocritical fuck. You obviously had a partner. Don't know how you got one into your bed. You are about as charming as shit." She snorted, raising up a hand and flicking him off.
"You don't control my decision making skills. And for your information, I like being dragged down by him." Tilting her head up, she turned on her heel and walked into the back of the kitchen, going straight for both the cake and the heavy duty flashlight. "Motherfucker. 'My name is Odhran'. More like old pea hen." Finding the flashlight first, she tucked it up under her arm before snagging the cake out of the fridge. She was maybe gone for a couple of minutes as she poked her head out the door. "Got the cake Nec. Let's bounce."
"Mm. Too bad I have no price on my head, as opposed to this one. If you brought my head in it would be murder. I've made no threats at you, cat, there's no self defense to call." She'd even recognize the smirk, but it was a twisted, vicious version of it. "And there are more kinds of partners than sexual, not my fault you instantly jumped to that, it tells more of you than me." Being called a hypocrite got Jasper a small glare, but Odhran soon caught himself and 'smiled'. "I did. And she's dead. Because of him." He'd let the cat think of that while she escaped into the bakery or whatever this place was, turning his attention to Nec again.
Bristling, Nec growled. "That's back there, you can't claim it here. And my safety check is still in place." And he wouldn't be able to get back! Right? Wait, what? "I never met her, how's it my fault?!"
"Be that as it may, I'd still be more than happy to put a knife in your chest, nych. See, it even rhymes, you almost picked the right name! And you did it by existing!" Suddenly the smiling, slick changeling was gone and a human stood in his place, grinning even wider. This one didn't look at all like Nec, not even Nec's former human form. But he had kept his size and strength, almost like what you'd expect a blacksmith or bodybuilder to look like, and turned to give Jasper a superior look when she emerged again.
That got an eyebrow raised and a sickly sweet smile from her. "Here you go Rocky. Hold this for just a moment." She would give the flashlight to Nec, that sickly sweet smile still there. "Really must know how you did it. My own mother could use a grave just fine." Turning towards the now human, she tilted her head at him. And then she moved. Fast as lightning and with years of experience dodging grabbing hands, she invaded his personal space. And that cake came right up and plowed into Old Pea Hen's face. The plate clattered to the ground as she started dancing back towards Nec. "I don't take threats well to friends. You will do well to remember that you old pea hen." Her eyes would be hard and that smile would be replaced by a frown.
Nec frowned but took the light, what was-- oh no. "Jasp--!" Too late!
Odhran started too, he hadn't expected that, not her coming so close and being as noble as she was! Insulting! Before he knew it he had cake in his face and was grabbing wildly in the air! He caught cloth but is ripped and he was left with only a piece of it, roaring in anger! That cat was talking but he didn't hear.
"Yup, you too!" Grabbing her hand, Nec took off and Jasper wouldn't have a choice but to follow, down alleys and dodging between buildings. His father would pursue, he had no doubt, but with cake in his eyes, maybe they stood a chance. "What the hell were you thinking, Jasper?!"
The sleeve of her dress ripped and she hissed as Nec grabbed her hand and took off running. She had lost her shoes and even with them, she wouldn't have been able to really keep up with Nec. Her arm was sore and she was fairly sure on the verge of being dislocated as her feet slapped against the pavement. She was just trying not to stumble behind him. "That it was a waste of cake to toss it in his face. I should have stuck with the flashlight." Jasper's sides heaved as she ran. She wasn't that bad of shape physically. But it was always different when the adrenaline spiked.
Nec didn't doubt they were being chased, but chances were he knew the village better than Odhran, so after several twists and turns, and noticing Jasper's increasing 'weight' as she struggled to keep up, Nec dove through a hole in a wooden fence and stopped.
"Cake was probably best, more for him to get in his eyes. Flashlight would've done less I think." Breathing hard, half from the run and half from adrenaline, Nec whispered and listened. "You should leave. No point in him getting more pissed at you when he has me to murder."
She leaned against him, glad for the rest. No matter how brief it actually was. Looking up at him, she would nod slowly. "Okay Nec. Can I have the flashlight?" As soon as it was in her hand, she swung it at his shin. Not hard enough to cause him to limp, but hard enough to make a point. Her face and eyes were hard as she reached up to grab his shirt and yank him close to her face. "Listen Nec. And listen well. I am not leaving you with a murderer on your stubborn ass. He can get prissy at me all he wants. I am not leaving you to die alone in the worst case scenario. You once said that you would follow me in death and annoy me the rest of my afterlife. Well, guess what Blueberry. I will do the same to you."
Releasing his shirt, Jasper strained her ears. "We probably need to get back to your room. I don't care how bad ass the old pea hen thinks he is. He will run away at the sight of a dragon. Doesn't even have to be yours."
"Ah! What--?!" He cut himself off and gave her a surprised glare, only to be grabbed and... lectured? Wait what? He'd said that? And. She would? Okay he really needed to remember what had happened!!! "I..." Blueberry sounded familiar too. This... needed thinking on, but not now.
"Yeah." Apo would literally eat the man if he thought it would help.
"How sweet. Only friends, hm?" Out of nowhere Odhran appeared, smirking and suddenly way too close for comfort! Still bits of pieces of cake on his face but he was unphased by it. He'd grab for Jasper, but missing her he'd go for Nec. Either one would do.
Jasper let out a yelp as she was grabbed and dragged away from Nec. She would release him so that way he wouldn't be dragged along either. "Yeah. Friends can't die for each other? Man. How far behind the times are you?" She had dropped the flashing when she was grabbed. Yanking on her arm, she strained to get away. She was scared. Only an idiot wouldn't admit that and she wasn't an idiot. But like hell was she gonna let this asshole see it. Opening her mouth, she went in for a bite. It should be fine...Or not. Either way, it was something at least. "Nec! Get out of here!"
Odhran was quick and twisted her arm around her back, almost lifting her off the ground by it! "I don't care!" Snarling the words, he leaned down and hissed them in her ear. If she managed to take a bite he'd only twist her arm harder until she let go, or snap her arm, he had no qualms with that.
As soon as Jasper was grabbed, Nec reacted, and he came all of two steps forward before a knife was at her throat. "Go ahead, and she'll bleed out." A sick smile on his face, and Nec had to stop. He couldn't risk Jasper!
"So what do you want? Just keep talking? Why don't you man up and get to the point?? You wanna kill me then try, but leave her out of it!" Nec was furious! And scared. And embarrassed. And frustrated. And a whole bunch of other things.
Ah, that's what he was waiting for. "Oh I won't kill you. Yet. You don't deserve a quick death like that. You killed your mother. Destroyed my life, I would be head of the Order by now if it wasn't for you!!" Reigning in his temper his voice got quiet. "No. I'll let you wait. Look over your shoulder. See your friends die in agony, knowing it's your fault. Anything you've gained here, including your companions, will be destroyed before I kill you. That's all you're worth, death and destruction, and all you bring to anyone stupid enough to even acknowledge your existence!"
She released him, not wanting to deal with a broken arm. The blade felt chilly against her skin as she let out a low growl. She was going to have bruises after this. She just knew it. "Wouldn't be the first time you know. I'm pretty stubborn about dying from cuts." She still had the scars from when she was sliced to ribbons and left alone for two days before Nec found her.
"Oh spare me the fucking sob story. Nec did nothing. YOU chose to have sex. YOU chose not to use protection. YOU ruined your chances to be the head of this whatever Order. Don't blame him for things YOU did. Just because you aren't brave enough to own up tot he mistakes. Gods. Have some sort of brain there. Even my mother wasn't that bad." Every time she tried to wiggle out, pain shot up her arm. Damn. That grip was pretty good. Then she started laughing. So he was going to kill everyone in Nec's life? Oh that was hilarious! He may get her. Maybe even get a few of the smaller companions. But that dragon? The fox man she had seen? Whoever else in his life? They would destroy him before he got close and she just couldn't help but laugh in glee that this man didn't even know he was signing over his own death.
Nec could feel Apo running. In circles in his mind, and wildly through the weyr to get to the village. Problem was he hadn't learned to neither fly or Between, so he was essentially too far away to help, and he knew.
NO! Nonononono N'c! No! Can't get to you! And Nec's own panicky mind didn't help his dragon either!
Odhran was hitting all the right spots to stab at Nec, he knew well what would cut deepest despite never knowing his offspring. He knew enough about psychology, manipulation and how to read people that he could tell when he hit the marks. "You'll see everything you know you never deserved ripped apart. You shouldn't have existed in the first place but by defying those laws you killed her." Grinning, he stared at Nec. "And your friends. She was sent to the Dark lands, you know. In pieces. They didn't bother to kill her before parting her." Whether it was true or not was impossible to tell. "You might as well have wielded the knife yourself, nych!"
Nec winced at the words, they did hit the mark, he'd been through this so many times he knew it was true but he didn't like having it thrown in his face! Not what he was focused on though. "Let her go!" He just needed to get Jasper away, give her a chance to run, escape!
Blah. Blah blah. Did this guy love to hear himself talk? Like, seriously? He was loud too. So loud she was fairly sure Nec didn't hear a single word she said either. Jasper rolled her eyes, trying to figure out how to get out of this predicament. "Surprise they didn't find you, you old pea hen." It was mostly mumbled under her breath as she thought about what she could do. It wasn't like there was too much. The angle of her arm made shifting impossible. Unless she wanted it dislocated. Frustration comes out in a growl. This wasn't how she wanted the night to go. She just wanted to sleep with him. In the most literal sense of the word.
"Oh fuck this shit." Jerking her arm, she let out a yowl as it was dislocated, the blade slicing slightly into her neck as she brought her knee and shin straight up into his groin. "You talk way too much."
Odhran didn't expect the cat-girl to do what she did, but he had a lot of experience with people doing unexpected things. To Jasper's credit he grunted and almost doubled over! "You little witch! You're next!"
Though what happened next was completely expected.
The instant Jasper was free and Odhran momentarily down, Nec charged, wanting to just gut the bastard. Unfortunately, for all that Nec was an experienced fighter he didn't have the centuries of experience of Odhran, and lacked the ruthlessness of a scorned changeling. His father turned and met him head on, knife still in hand and if made sparks as it deflected off Nec's horn, just barely (and accidentally) stopping it going into his back instead.
