Naventus sport a 12 to 30 foot wingspan when full grown depending on rank, their flat fins used to gently propel themselves through the air (and rarely, the water) and have been admired for their unusually smooth ride when used as transportation. Their thick, rubbery skin may appear to be wet but is instead cool and smooth- unless they happen to be traveling through inclement weather. Though they come in a range of colors some ranks have more restricted ranges than others, typically brighter and more bold colors the smaller they are. No matter the rank or color each individual has lighter tips on each fin, as well as a unique 'collar' like marking on the back of their heads. The exact shape and size of these markings are different for each individual, and is used as a quick way to identify who they are flying with when traveling in a school. The color of these markings is also determined by rank.
Their most unique feature is their ability to generate and control weather- each rank has a specific type of weather phenomenon they can control for anywhere between four and six hours. When not actively using their powers the dormant energy will manifest as group of energy based "remora" that appear to swim in the air around them or attach to the bottom side of the Naventus's fins. These 'creatures' have no mind of their own and are entirely controlled by the individual Naventus. They dissipate into the air around the Naventus when their weather powers are being used.
On average the Naventus are calm, relaxing creatures- preferring to avoid conflict and generally unwilling to show anger or be violent. Of course, there are individual exceptions personality wise- and you'd be hard pressed to find a bonded Naventus who wouldn't step up to protect their bond and bond family with as much force as needed.
Being filter feeders they are often seen cruising the sky above populated areas or areas with a high concentration of magic- this can be due to other Teragaian creatures or a naturally occurring phenomenon. They feed on microscopic 'plankton' that are only semi-corporeal, and thus undetectable to most, that are attracted to magical energies. Because of this it isn't uncommon to see a small school of Naventus using their weather magic to attract a swarm of them. It is a wonderous sight to see the sky full of them, looping through the storm with their mouths wide open.
Mating Information
When a Naventus is ready to mate they will take to the sky over the sea (rarely over land, if they must) and mentally call out for others to join them. Once a suitable amount have gathered the leader of the chase will begin to use their weather magic to start a storm, while the others will join them with their own magic. The leader of the chase will then begin to soar through the storm at top speed, doing loops and flips to try and shake off their chasers.
The leader expects the chasers to combine their magic with their own, either strengthening or neutralizing their storm. Often the leader will choose a mate and approach them, while other times they truly leave it up to chance and whoever can catch up with them will win. There are occasionally non-traditional chases where the leader may choose a different kind of trial, though they are rare.
All Naventus are able to both sire and clutch, since they use their magic to combine energies. Because of this, it is most common for BOTH the winning chaser and the host to lay a number of egg cases- though there are exceptions to the rule, resulting in a smaller than average clutch. Strangely the total number of egg cases laid is primarily determined by the leader of the chase, regardless of the number typically laid by the sire.
Can hybridize with Sweid, and any future aquatic-based species, even if they are no longer aquatic.
Bonding Information
Curiously, Naventus are able to bond even before they emerge from their egg-cases, though they most often wait until they have been hatched for at least two weeks.
Typically one or both parents will send word in some way that they have a clutch up for bonding, and will have the potential candidates gather near the waters edge somewhere- this could be on an open beach, in a hidden cove, even at lakeside. There was even an instance of a small pond inside an underground cavern that was only accessible via a giant sinkhole.
Whether fully hatched or still in their egg-cases, the pups are able to communicate fluently through mindspeech and will most often ask a series of questions to the potential bonds- sometimes individually, other times as a group, and will make their determination from there. Though it isn't required it is encouraged to bring at least one magical item or ability- this is to keep the parents from needing to produce a storm to feed their offspring with their storms and potentially injure the attending candidates.

The largest of all the ranks, Procellas average between 27 and 30 foot wingspans. They have the darkest coloration on average and can range between dark stormy purples, blues, grays and even black. Most often their main colors mix together in large mottled patches with streaks of lighter shades. The wingtip and collar markings are always a bright yellow or light orange. They have the power to create intense thunderstorms, and are the only rank that has control over lightning in their storms. The remora that float around or attach to them are made up of what appears to be rolling thunder clouds with flashes of lightning, as well as sparks shooting off harmlessly. They tend to have personalities suitable for a benevolent leader, putting the safety of those they care for before their own. Along with their mate they may lay between 5 and 10 egg cases after a successful chase.
Turbonis 4*
The second largest rank, the Turbonis average between 23 and 27 foot wingspans. They are lighter on average, ranging from a lighter gray to pale greens and blues. Their main body colors are often mixed with swirls and streaks, usually all "facing" the same direction like the swirl of a cyclone. The wingtip and collar markings are always a dark gray or black. They have the power to create powerful cyclones- they don't have the range that other ranks might but the destructive power is often more than even a Procella. The remora that accompany this rank appear to be made of a blur of whirling wind, and even with their small size they can provide a nice breeze for any riders on a hot day. They tend to have a more chaotic and bold personality, eager to do tricks mid-air to show off. Along with their mate they may lay between 5 and 8 egg cases in a clutch.
Imber 3*
The third largest rank, Imber average between 20 and 23 foot wingspans. They have a middling range in coloration, typically rich blues and greens with the unusual tendency to have small white markings all over or clustered in areas. While they can have more than one main color, typically they fade into each other smoothly and are broken by small white or light gray spotting or 'raindrop' shaped streaks. Their wingtip and collar markings are always a medium to light gray, sometimes with a blue tinge. They may be mistaken for Procella if their storm is seen at first, but the lack of lightning in their strong rainstorms set them apart, as well as the length of time they can summon the storm being much longer- up to ten hours. The remora that float around them appear to be made up of pure water, each individual a slightly different shade, and will often 'rain' tiny droplets as they swim around the air. They often have a somewhat unpredictable personality; one moment calm and soothing but working themselves up into an excited frenzy at a moments notice. Along with their mate they may lay between 4 and 6 egg cases in a clutch.

The third smallest rank, Niveus average between 17 and 20 foot wingspans. They are very often pure white- or at least appear so from a distance, only showing the underlying hue when seen up close, which can be any color. They are always a solid base color but may have a faint glitter to their skin, either white or a more saturated color of their base hue, sometimes only on parts of their body. Their wingtip and collar markings are always an extremely pale purple color, often nearly white and just barely darker than their base. Niveus have the ability to produce snowstorms; anywhere from a simple bluster to a full blizzard, and are the rank most likely to summon their storms far inland. The remora that follow them around are made of a mix of whirling snow and hail, and seem to cool the air around them as they follow their host. They are known for having 'cold' personalities, but they are often misunderstood and simply prefer to quietly observe instead of being the first to speak. Along with their mate they may lay between 3 to 5 egg cases.

They are unusual in that their powers are seen as the opposite of any other ranks, instead of bringing on a storm they can repel them to bring out the sunshine. Though a single Solis may only be able to create an opening in a stronger storm, a group can easily combine to repel even the most fearsome weather. The remora that encircle the Solis rank are sometimes a bit difficult to look at directly, being a bright shiny being of pure light- though the Solis may control them and dim the light when they want to a dull glow. They are known for having bright, happy personalities, and are quite difficult to anger.. but when they do reach that point, they run hot. They are the only rank that cannot lay egg cases, and as such do not host chases, but can still chase and help sire a clutch. Oddly pairings with Solis do not effect the total number of egg cases.
