Character Sheet
Name: Tamara Swift
Race: Darkling
Sex: Female
Age: 31
Alignment: Neutral
Appearance
Of average height, Tamara has tanned skin and a long tumble of red hair. Her eyes are dark, green but almost black, with snapping shadows and an inner fire that can be difficult to look into for too long at a time. She dresses well, for a peasant, in lovingly-patched dresses of modest fabrics that reach to her knees. Her feet are bare, the better for keeping her in tune with the earth and the spirits.
Personality
For the most part, Tamara Swift is quiet, stern, and unobtrusive. She has a sense of humor, well disguised, and a bent towards nurturing, also well disguised, behind a mien that can lean toward strong-willed, harsh, secretive, or even sometimes didactic. Rarely, when provoked so, Tamara shows what she’s like when she’s well and truly angry, and this is as a witch with a demon patron – a witch with a comprehensive knowledge of hexes and dark rituals she isn’t afraid to use.
History
The middle of seven children to a peasant family in the kingdom of Kaedwen, Tamara grew up with the secret whispers that her bloodline was something more, or less, than human. It cost her friends, when she was a child. The boy she was sure she was going to grow up and marry was separated from her by his parents, who filled their little boy’s head with all sorts of stories about the Swifts and their unholy origins. But Tamara’s mother had been a village witch once. She trained her middle daughter in the ways of herbs and remedies, in the ways of heathen rituals and spells.
It was only after Tamara set off on her own in her teenage years that she felt the call of her blood. She wasn’t entirely human, after all, some distant ancestor had been some kind of greater demon (Gaunter O’Dimm, unbeknownst to Tamara’s line). Witches can come from several pagan traditions, skin shifting, the Old Ways…or the dark arts and the patronage of a greater demon. So it was that Tamara sought out the Horrid King, master of demons, to serve. He’s been a less macabre master than he sounds thus far, most of the time, although he’s not without his temper. The Horrid King, I-Molech, Melech to those who know him personally, sometimes appears to Tamara. Usually not when bidden.
Tamara settled in a small hut outside of a superstitious little village and took over stewardship of them. They kept her secrets from the witch hunters and in turn she made them remedies, and love potions, told their fortunes, kept their crops good, their livestock and children healthy, and the various sundry other duties of a village witch. Once, she had a friend, a girl from her birth village whom she hired for something, and stayed in contact with until the other woman died in an accident some years later. Making friends was always a challenge for Tamara. It was one thing to be needed, quite another to be liked.
Powers and Abilities
Darkling Heritage – Being a descendant of a Greater Demon has its advantages, for all it makes one a social pariah on the homeworld. It makes one immune to magical charm effects, resistant to fire and bleeding, and just slightly more able than a normal human. It also imparts a random magical gift, which in Tamara’s case is-
Pyrokinesis – Tamara can light or snuff a fire within eight meters of herself. She can light almost any object on fire, but not herself. The downside is that whenever she has even narrow odds of being ignited, she gets ignited regardless.
Invocations – Spells, like those of a druid, that Tamara can cast situationally.
Rituals – These are spell-like, but require component materials and time to cast. Many of these rituals are divinatory in nature.
Heathen Rituals – Witchcraft, taught to Tamara by her mother, these are rituals specific to the witch and the witch alone. Most of these rituals are supportive or bolstering in nature.
Dark Arts – The blackest aspects of witchcraft, Tamara has learned this fel knowledge from Melech, the Horrid King, and can use it to harm or hinder.
