Not every resident of Teragaia knows the touch of sleep naturally or routinely, but even those generally immune to the allures of slumber will find themselves this night pulled to bed, or to a comfortable tree branch, or a convenient pile of hay. Somewhere quiet, somewhere restful, somewhere now lies the weary dreamer's head, fit to sleep.
One awakens, as one does, dressed in a simple white cotton shirt and a pair of tan pants, also cotton (if one is fit to wear clothing at all). Bare hands, bare feet, chill against the thin mud and stringy lichens that veneer the sharp-layered rock steppes. Redwoods tower into the clouds above, and the shale crags of the island sit veiled in mist and more clouds.
There are many such islands visible, dense shale and granite roots comprise the jagged undersides, though foliage and bodies of water shape the tops -- that which can be seen, anyway; much is obscured by mist.
A subtle sway in the stone beneath one's feet answers the question, if there ever was a question: yes, the island is floating in the sky.
The only real direction presented to walk is up, generally speaking, up an incline in the shale, almost a staircase carved into the stone by what might almost pass for natural water, wind, time, were it not for the unreality of the entire island itself.
At the apex of the hill, stone henges stand in a ring around three large piles of dry grass. Brittle, pokey, stacked high and sun-scorched. As if the overcast, tormented sky can be said to have a sun at all. The three cardinal henges, aligned with the piles, have glyphs carved into the top stones. Glyphs that glow a strong green, and are somehow understood to mean VALOR, CONTENTMENT, and WRATH.
Some of you, welcome back. To others, welcome to the Liminal Passages. Create the doors, find the way, navigate the Fade. Know yourself better for it.
Wouldst thou be afraid?
It's just as well. Wouldn't want to step up and be *judged*, would we? Of course not. THEY NEVER DO.
Hello and welcome to Liminal Passages II! If you weren't around for the first one, it's a bonding I ran on the old site running people through a crazy dreamscape to hand them mutant, dreamwalking Familiars. If you were around for the last one, this one is almost exactly the same! The Passages function the same way, the Fade spirits are exactly as they were, I just have twelve new ones to write up. If nobody goes wild.
Welcome to a weird dreamscape where nothing is necessarily real, nobody has any powers, and navigating between the islands depends entirely how you choose to interpret the doors and bridges.
◘ No shinies, please, you're essentially in a dream world, just the characters you're bringing along (though there's no cap on those).*
◘ No powers! Again, dream. Everybody's just dressed as described and randomly on this floating island because dream logic.
◘ So what actually are those doors/bridges? That is actually flexible. Interact with the island a bit. Several possibilities are there.
◘ I have twelve critters here. Whether they bond at all depends largely on how questions are answered, because Familiars are picky. You'll see what ranks and genders I'm handing out when they're either bonded or wilded, but until then you'll get a word bank -- twelve core values floating around in the mists with you, watching your characters, listening to them, searching for a match. So when the colorful voices start asking things...feel free to go into detail. They're looking for it.
◘ Also no post limit, yo. If you think interacting with each other will help you out, do so. ^^ All characters can see each other, hear each other, and communicate with one another as long as they're on the same island.
◘ Because this is a dream, if your character is ordinarily not able to speak...they now can. If they happen to think to.
*Unless you were part of the original Liminal Passages, and you have one of the Fade Spirits who can guide you through a lucid dream. Pelamn, Mokuah, Sadakesh, Kimbule, Alhambriel, Tanzendiel, Jhe'tt, Xurog, Darbaros, I *think* those are all the ones still active on site who have permission to enter the No Shiny Zone.
