Personality:
Rowan has a very dedicated, loyal personality. As a member of His Majesty's Ariel Corp and raised to the service she has no fear of dragons and feels the call of duty. She can come across as stiff and formal, though when someone can get beyond that she has a solid sense of humor and is warm and friendly. She believes in leading by respect and dedication to one another and the common cause, not leading by fear. But she also has a strong morality based in her Christian faith. Therefore, when something strikes Rowan as just plain wrong on a level beyond national boarders, to the point of good vs. evil, she will break laws and even commit herself to treason. But these crimes she will take upon herself, and herself alone. She will actively try to avoid dragging anyone else's reputation through the mire along with her.
Being a Captain in the Corp, Rowan had a very close bond with her dragon Lucius, a Longwing breed of dragon. Among his Majesty's Dragon Corp the Longwing breed will only take females as their companions and captains, so her inclusion in the Corp was vital as it is for many other girls and ladies. This in an era where women were expected to be mild, demure, and always wearing long dresses she stood equal with the male captains in the service, wore pants, and was taught to shoot and swordfight with the best of them. Whenever she was at liberty Rowan would be spending time with him, talking and stroking his head. She was his first captain, and he took food and harness from her hand, linking their fate until one of the other lost the ability to serveā¦ or died. Which, tragically, was what happened.
(Spoiler for reasons of battle details.)
There was a battle. It was terrible. Napoleon's forces were overwhelming and the British forces were under a fighting retreat. She'd lost crewmen due to attacks from other dragons' crews, and both she and Lucius were injured. Then a French Petit Chevalier came up from below, clashing with Lucius and raking his chest and throat with her talons. It was a mortal blow; Lucius was rent through clear to bone and deeper. Though Lucius bravely broke away and fell back to friendly company, allowing his crew to jump to other dragons for safety, his life was fading fast. Heart breaking, knowing it was a choice between trying to land and a slow, painful bleeding out as well as her own capture or the other choice, Rowan called for him to fly as high as he could over the enemy forces until his strength was about to give out. While he flew she made her way up his neck, shouting all the time her love and how brave he was and encouragement to do this one, final duty for their country and how she was with him still. When he could climb no more she used her own pistol and shot him in the back of the head, ending his suffering, then they fell together into the French guns and militia, crushing people and weapons and horses alike under the dragon's massive weight. Rowan lost her life in the process, more than happy to follow her dragon to the grave.
Until she opened her eyes, on Teragaia, alone. A reward for her service? A quirk of the IF? Who knows.
Powers/Abilities:
A fair shot with a pistol, the kind that takes powder, wadding, and a ball and a long time to reload.
Capable with a sword
Athletic; you have to be to be scurrying all over a dragon's harness in full flight and in battle
Vulnerabilities
Is a squishy human.
Had what some would call a stuffy sense of honor.
Quirks:
Cherishes her bottle-green aviator's coat
Wears a silver cross under her uniform
Pronounces 'lieutenant' as 'leftenant'
Note: Rowan is a Christian, raised in Great Britain between 1799 and 1820. Though the aviators were lax about certain views that would be shocking to the populace of the era (women wearing pants, for example, and certain ideals about promiscuity and marriage based on reasons) she does hold to the morals that were commonplace otherwise. This means that she might react to characters, relationships, and behaviors with shock or discomfort. This is in no ways a reflection on other characters or the people who play them nor meant to offend.
