Shortly after Impressing Imlueth (that's what they called the strange bond between rider and dragon, Impression), Alxian had been assigned quarters, called a weyr, that he could more or less decorate as he pleased. And he was given a schedule to show up for weyrling training, which, he supposed, was sensible. No use Impressing a dragon and then not learning how to take care of her or learn how he fit into the structure of the overall uppercase Weyr.
However, there was some time off in the rigorous schedule of a weyrling. At first, Alxian had been a little lost as to what to do with this spare time, as he had no idea what this new world had to offer, but the locals and the natives (and he was very corrected on not mixing the two up: he was now a local, the natives had been born here) had soon pointed him in the direction of something called the Veiled Shrine, an ever-changing thing in honor of some demi-deity named Aeon.
Imlueth was too young to make the journey with him, so he fed her buckets of cut meat and saw her off to dreamland before he left the Weyr.
And then, of course, Alxian had one of Teragaia's quieter run-ins with the Illogical Field. A walk up the mountain at a pace that should have taken several days took about...three hours, give or take. The trail terminated at a temple-seeming structure. Alxian didn't recognize the architecture. How could he? The Parthenon was an Earth fixture and he was from Exandria. Although the original Parthenon did not have a water fountain in the middle of it, but the Veiled Shrine always had some kind of water feature no matter how it structured itself. Always. Alxian had been told that was how he'd recognize it.
