As you enter the shop, you are greeted by the sight of shelves and a display case filled with various trinkets and artifacts from a bygone age. A female person with a humanoid upper body and a serpentine lower body, in this case a deep green boa constrictor with emerald zig-zag lines forming diamonds down the back of her snake half, and quite likely her humanoid half, stands at the counter dusting a rune-laden tablet. Said humanoid body is equally deep green, including her thick, wavy hair. Her eyes are vivid amethyst, and she wears an one-shoulder fuchsia toga. Her expression is welcoming as she looks up to you.
"Welcome to my shop. I am Kalatis, both a collector of rare relics and a dabbler in the creation of what some worlds would call artifacts. If you are here, then you must be interested in something truly wondrous. While my selection may be small right now, I assure you the things here you will not find anywhere else.
Oh! and if you happen to have stumbled upon any Gold Coins in your travels, I would be willing to reduce your total by 5 for each one you are willing to trade to me. I find them quite useful in my research, you see, so I am always looking to acquire more.
So please, browse to your heart's content, and let me know when you have made a choice. Just be sure you understand what each does fully as well as any limitations there may be. No magic is all-powerful, after all. Even mine."
Prismatic Crystal
Cost: 50BP (10 Coins)
*These crystals can be used to add or alter colors or patterns to your companion.
-Rank or gender marks cannot be altered or imitated.
-One mutation per crystal used.
Bone Talisman Cost: 50BP (10 Coins)
*These talismans can add a physical mutation to a Companion, such as horns, extra wings, or alter wings.
-Rank or gender identifiers cannot be altered or imitated.
-1 mutation per talisman used (note: Wings come in pair of two per talisman maximum, though one wing is permissible)
Arcane Script
Cost: 50BP (10 Coins)
*These give your shinies abilities that their ranks and species wouldn't otherwise have, such as the ability to turn invisible, have a poisonous bite, or other such magical or supernatural gifts. This can also be used to change some existing abilities from a species.
Aeon's Kiss
Cost: 50BP (or 10 Coins)
*This tincture is a clear fluid in a tiny bottle, capable of bestowing mindspeech upon a shiny that otherwise cannot talk.
-Certain species can speak but refuse to, such as Firemanes and Starmanes; these species are immune to Aeon's Kiss.
-Only a single dose of tincture per bottle.
-Acquired speech pattern variable by individual creature. Some will speak as clearly as any human and others will speak in choppy blocks in the manner of Zaithandi and other "less intelligent" species.
Red Mushrooms Cost: 25BP (5 coins)
*This odious red mushroom will make the shiny that consumes it grow larger.
-One size category per mushroom, talk to an admin for a brief overview of size categories in relation to the shiny you intend to enlarge.
Blue Mushrooms Cost: 25BP (5 coins)
*This noxious blue mushroom will make the shiny that consumes it grow smaller.
-One size category per mushroom, talk to an admin for a brief overview of size categories in relation to the shiny you intend to shrink.
Cursed Idol Cost: 25 BP (5 Coins)
*This small, uncarved figurine base of your chosen material will curse a chosen shiny to become a Sumine, or Summon Figurine. Alternatively, an actual Sumine cursed will break, and the creature within the figurine will become permanently summoned and no longer possess a figurine state at all.
-Shiny will retain all mental faculties while summoned, but intelligence and awareness will be dormant while in figurine form | Permanently summoned Sumines remain as limited in intelligence and personality as they were before.
-Only one shiny may be cursed per figurine base purchased.
Please Note: Due to their unique genetic makeup, non-Mottle Dragons and non-Mottle Firelizards are immune to Prismatic Crystals, Bone Talismans, and Arcane Scripts. They are somehow also immune to the effects of Red and Blue Mushrooms -- the Weyr's top scientists are still trying to pin down how, as well as how they seem to be immune to the Cursed Idols.
â—˜ADDENDUM: The Cursed Idols are half-cost because they are a limiting mutation, not a perk.
Please for sake of clarity note on your creature descriptions if they have been altered by one of these means. (Ex. Prismatic Crystal: Silver Swirls or Bone Talisman: Forehead Horn)
"Aaaah, the Runic Gizzard Stones! Not the most glorious name, I admit, but those are useful little things. I created them for the dragonriders of the Weyr, after the wild dragons started interbreeding and the Mottles appeared. Those stones wouldn't work a bit on the pure-blooded Pern dragons back in the day, but I've recently come to a scintillating breakthrough! If you feed one to a Mottle, well. You know how they are, things work much more reliably on them. They don't need to chew firestone to breathe something deadly, but that something deadly doesn't always... suit. Sometimes the dragon or the rider is displeased with the breath weapon the dragon hatched with, and when that happens, they come to me. Some very special stones can even alter your Mottle dragon to bring out heritage it may not even have, giving it the Sun, Song, or Prismatic attribute -- but those are more expensive, naturally. Now, about that breakthrough I mentioned -- there was a time when nothing, and I mean NOTHING, would alter the basic physiology of the pedigree Pernese. For the most part, that still holds true, except for my Runic Gizzard Stones! Eh, well, most of them -- you can't feed them the mutational stones, the Sun, Song, or Prismatic ones. But the Runic Gizzard Stones work. They still need to consume firestone to have a breath weapon, since they lack a natural breath weapon, but the effect of the Runic Gizzard Stone will alter the effect of the firestone accordingly so that what was once flame is now something entirely new!
I also make smaller stones, if you want your Firelizard to breathe something other than fire."
Runic Gizzard Stones (Dragon)
Fire Rune: Costs 10BP (2 coins) -- Will grant a Dragon the ability to breathe a cone of fire instead of the original breath weapon.
Frost Rune: Costs 10 BP (2 coins) -- Will grant a Dragon the ability to breathe a cone of frost instead of the original breath weapon.
Lightning Rune: Costs 10 BP (2 coins) -- Will grant a Dragon the ability to breathe a cone of lightning instead of the original breath weapon.
Acid Rune: Costs 10 BP (2 coins) -- Will grant a Dragon the ability to breathe a spray of acid instead of the original breath weapon.
Corrosive Gas Rune: Costs 10 BP (2 coins) -- Will grant a Dragon the ability to breathe a fog of corrosive chlorine gas instead of the original breath weapon.
Sun Rune: Costs 50 BP (10 coins) -- Will grant a Mottle Dragon the Sunwyrm ancestry and replace the breath weapon with a specialized Sunray attack that blinds the living and does devastating damage to the undead.
Song Rune: Costs 50 BP (10 coins) -- Will grant a Mottle Dragon the Song Dragon ancestry and replace the breath weapon with a lightning-infused mist. Additionally, dragon gains a singing voice capable of rallying allies, providing clarity of purpose and immunity to panic.
Prismatic Rune: Costs 50 BP (10 coins) -- Will grant a Mottle Dragon the Prismatic Dragon ancestry and replace the breath weapon with a long-range cone of Color Spray, which is completely nonlethal but stuns and dazes any sapient beings caught in the blast.
"Oh, and before you leave the aisle, I have recently managed to engineer the non-lethal breath weapons of the wild metallic dragons, if that's what catches your fancy!"
Repulsion Rune: Costs 10 BP (2 coins) -- Will grant a Dragon the ability to breathe a cone of non-damaging repulsion gas instead of the original breath weapon; knocks the effected back away from the dragon.
Sleep Rune: Costs 10BP (2 coins) -- Will grant a Dragon the ability to breathe a cone of non-damaging sleep gas instead of the original breath weapon; forces the effected to fall asleep immediately upon inhalation.
Slow Rune: Costs 10BP (2 coins) -- Will grant a Dragon the ability to breathe a cone of non-damaging slow gas instead of the original breath weapon; causes the effected to move at half speed for several minutes.
Weakening Rune: Costs 10BP (2 coins) -- Will grant a Dragon the ability to breathe a cone of non-lethal weakening gas instead of the original breath weapon; afflicts the effected with withering (but temporary) physical weakness.
Paralyzation Rune: Costs 10BP (2 coins) -- Will grant a Dragon the ability to breathe a cone of non-damaging paralyzation gas instead of the original breath weapon; causes the effected to become completely paralyzed for several minutes.
Small Runic Gizzard Stones (Mottle Firelizards)
Frost Rune: Costs 25 BP (5 coins) -- Will grant a Firelizard the ability to breathe a cone of frost instead of fire.
Lightning Rune: Costs 25 BP (5 coins) -- Will grant a Firelizard the ability to breathe a cone of lightning instead of fire.
Acid Rune: Costs 25 BP (5 coins) -- Will grant a Firelizard the ability to breathe a spray of acid instead of fire.
Corrosive Gas Rune: Costs 25 BP (5 coins) -- Will grant a Firelizard the ability to breathe a fog of corrosive chlorine gas instead of fire.
"Don't leave before checking out the new Runic Gizzard Stone selection for Firelizards too! They're not just for Dragons anymore!"
Repulsion Rune: Costs 25BP (5 coins) -- Will grant a Firelizard the ability to breathe a cone of non-damaging repulsion gas instead of the original breath weapon; knocks the effected back away from the flit.
Sleep Rune: Costs 25BP (5 coins) -- Will grant a Firelizard the ability to breathe a cone of non-damaging sleep gas instead of the original breath weapon; forces the effected to fall asleep immediately upon inhalation.
Slow Rune: Costs 25BP (5 coins) -- Will grant a Firelizard the ability to breathe a cone of non-damaging slow gas instead of the original breath weapon; causes the effected to move at half speed for several minutes.
Weakening Rune: Costs 25BP (5 coins) -- Will grant a Firelizard the ability to breathe a cone of non-lethal weakening gas instead of the original breath weapon; afflicts the effected with withering (but temporary) physical weakness.
Paralyzation Rune: Costs 25BP (5 coins) -- Will grant a Firelizard the ability to breathe a cone of non-damaging paralyzation gas instead of the original breath weapon; causes the effected to become completely paralyzed for several minutes.
Details:
*Each Runic Gizzard Stone is a single-use item consumed by the Dragon or Firelizard (whichever you purchase for; you cannot apply a Firelizard stone to a Dragon, nor can you apply a Dragon's stone to a Firelizard).
*Most of them are less expensive (for the Dragons) because they are not a mutation; just a reset of an existing natural ability. The Sun/Song/Prismatic stones are genuine mutations, and thus are priced at the general mutation cost. The Firelizard stones are halfway between a reset and a genuine mutation, and have been cost-adjusted accordingly.
*The new non-lethal breath weapons are included at non-mutation price because wild metallic dragons have always had secondary breath weapons and could feasibly pass them down to the Mottles...and, through Kalatis now, the pedigrees too!
â—˜ADDENDUM: Most of the restrictions have been removed regarding giving a gizzard stone to the pedigree Pernese dragons to change their breath weapon from firestone = fire to firestone = other, barring the hereditary mutations (Sun, Song, Prismatic). The one rank that has not changed and is still not allowed to consume Runic Gizzard Stones is the Gold Dragon, as they are canonically unable to chew and process firestone in the first place; doing so results in horrible vomiting as their bodies reject a toxic substance that would render them sterile (unable to lay eggs).
Dream Clouds
Cost: 500BP (100 Coins)
"Aah, you've spotted those, have you? Little clouds floating in crystalline bubbles, perhaps my most powerful creation of all. You see, those, my friend, are quite literally dreams come true. Why not see what your heart and mind desire?"
Dream Clouds produce a single unique, 'one-of-a-kind' creature, as YOU design it! Throw the Database out the window for this one. If you can imagine it, you can have it.
Frozen Sundrops
(Cost: 10BP (2 Coin Equivalent)
When used in conjunction with a Dream Cloud, these drops "lock" a creature design, preventing anyone else from duplicating the same creature. This effect can only be "unlocked" by the original creator of the Dream Creature (by PMing an admin).
Details:
* Using a Dream Cloud does not make a whole new species. It is for a single creature that is specifically bonded to your character.
*It is advisable that you be aware of what already exists in the database before you design your Dream Companion, because it would be a waste of BP and Coins if you created something that could have just been acquired through the Veiled Shrine and a few Prismatic Crystals and Bone Talismans.
*Due to their unique nature, Dream Creatures cannot participate in Chases, even if a duplicate of their kind is created.
