If there was one thing the Irken military academy had taught Fait, it was that there was much benefit to having numerous forces. However, it was important that one not get too attached to their fellow soldiers, as every Irken's priorities - second only to the Tallest - was themself and their advancement in the ranks. There would be undercutting, there would be betrayal, and in several cases Irkens wouldn't stoop to using or harming one another if they got in the way. Attachment bred weakness, and weakness had no place in the Irken military.
You're thinking too hard again, commander, piped up a familiar voice.
Fait let out a sigh. Of course it would be Frei. For some reason the little insect had attached himself to her, both physically and emotionally, and she couldn't make heads or tails of it. What made things worse was that she was actively coming to care for not just him but the rest of those who had joined her army. Even Xyl, for all that he'd been equivalent to a stumbling smeet when they'd first met, had grown into his own and she couldn't help feeling a stab of pride that she was the one behind his growth. That had he been Irken himself, he would have easily been able to take the reins of his own squadron.
"Not now, Frei," she murmured, her lekku twitching slightly as they stepped into the veiled shrine.

OOC: Claiming a Silinrul caradras, a Dawn majebe, a Conundrum sphinx, and Five Tails Fire kitsune for 55 BP! Would prefer for these to be made by Kay.
The Veiled Shrine was a place that could take many forms. It had been a tower fortress, a cave, a temple, a garden.
Today it was a battlefield.
There were no bodies thankfully, but all the signs were there. Crimson-stained ground, weaponry standing up from the dirt, sunset-red skies. The circular pool by contrast was still perfect, still blue, still mirror-flat as if it was untouched by its surroundings. It was here that Fait would be beckoned as there were those who were awaiting her: a Caradras, a Majebe, a Sphinx, and a Kitsune. The Caradras was streaked in blood as if he'd been in the battle though none of it was his own, and he lowered his head briefly before giving a toss of his gleaming horn in a salute.
My commander, what do you require of me?
The Majebe didn't speak, simply came around to stand by Fait's side, twin tails gently touching her back in a supportive manner.
Hmm… The Sphinx peered at Fait curiously, looking at her from one direction, then another as if trying to figure out something. Then she nodded. Yes, perhaps. Lets find an answer together, shall we?
Just as long as you don't hurt her! snapped the Kitsune, literally and figuratively with gleaming teeth clacking and sparks flickering through twining five-fold tails. I won't let that happen!
Bond! Jack of all Trades, Master of None Male Silinrul Caradras, Devotion by Deeds, not Words Male Dawn Majebe, Seeking Great Answers Female Conundrum Sphinx , and The Bright Flame Strikes Quick Male Five Tails Fire kitsune to Fait!
******************************************** Jack of all Trades, Master of None Male Silinrul Caradras
Mindspeech: Bold #74448b
"A jack of all trades and master of none, better than a master of one." A variation on a saying espousing that it is better to know a little bit about a lot of things rather than become an expert in a single subject and remain ignorant in all else. This particular Caradras might have coined the phrase himself, though he didn't. In a rank known to not only gather resources but often have a specialization in a couple of crafts he has dedicated himself to knowing a little bit of everything that first his Legion, and now Fait, would need of him. Yes Kack of all Trades is far from a master, he admits this freely. But that isn't the point. This mindset means that in any given situation he had provide use by standing as assistance to masters or knowing what craft will serve best. He has enough knowledge to make at least a passable item though it will never be very high quality not terribly long lasting but it will for certain get the job done.
Jack of all Trades is a moderately tall Caradras stallion at 7' tall at the withers. His scaled pelt is a very dark purple that can trick people into thinking he's actually black in color. His dragon-like tail's scythe is kept razor sharp, as are his talons. The membranes of his wings are mottled between navy and black. The jagged horn on his brow by contrast is looks almost like white quartz, gleaming above deep blue eyes. ----------------------------------- Devotion by Deeds, not Words Male Dawn Majebe
Mindspeech: Color #06621d
Fait's past was a lesson in never trusting anyone to watch your back for longer than it benefitted them. It's been a hard rhetoric to push from her thoughts at times. But words are cheap, little more than hot air in the wind and just as insubstantial. Devotion by Deeds is an incredibly loyal creature. His loyalty to Fait is as absolute as her previous 'comrades' were traitorous. But he will never say as much to her. It's not that it's a big secret or anything. The Majebe just prefers to show as opposed to tell. He says 'I will always be here' with every obeyed order. 'You can trust me' is how he takes care to protect his Bonded from dangers even at risk to himself. 'To the ends of the world,' is in every look and touch and act. And maybe someday that silent message will get through.
Leggy and graceful with dual tails as long as his body, Devotion by Deeds has the body structure akin to a Cheetah as befits a Dawn Majebe. His pelt gleams a deep midnight blue with white, pale yellow, and pale blue rosettes, as well as a pale yellow smoke-ruff at the base of his neck to slightly between his shoulders. The smoke that trails from his ankles and tailtip is soft blue in color, what some might call the color of a newborn star and matches his gleaming eyes. His wings match his deep midnight blue fur with thin stripes of pale blue along the longest feathers with tiny star-yellow flecks mixed within.
----------------------------------- Seeking Great Answers Female Conundrum Sphinx
Mindspeech: Bold Italics #9810a1
Some mysteries go beyond riddles and tangrams and logic puzzles. They are the great mysteries, the great questions and riddles that speak to the very heart and purpose of the universe. Where does life come from? What binds two creatures in ties of friendship, or of love? What happens after a soul crosses that threshold into the unknown of death? These are true conundrums in that many have tried but none have been able to answer. And these are the very things that Seeking Great Answers is working to solve. Though as her kind she loved logic problems she views them as mental exercises, practice for those Great Conundrums she so cherishes. She makes her own to try and find the solutions she seeks and observes those around her to learn why they do the things they do. Admittedly she's lived in her own head so long she had literally zero experience in a great many things that most everyone considers commonplace, like friendships and love and the simple pleasures of life. Perhaps in being Bonded to Fait and seeing how she views the world Seeking Great Answers will find some of the answers she seeks.
A full seven feet at the shoulder, Seeking Great Answers has the tawny gold wings of her rank. However her pelt carries a color mutation in that instead of being some shade of brown she is ebony black without a single hair of other color on her. Her eyes are vivid green like lush, spring grass. Though her claws are pale, natural shades the first one on each front paw are stained black at the tips from the ink she uses to make her charts and logic graphs; Fait might ought to get used to finding them here, there, and everywhere with the most strange arrangements of facts.
Prismatic Mutation: Black fur ------------------------------------- The Bright Flame Strikes Quick Male Five Tails Fire Kitsune
Mindspeech: Italics #ecd352
Fire Kitsune are known to have tempers and that's putting it mildly. They are the Vengeful Tricksters, after all. Bright Flame is a five-tailed fox that long ago decided why be anything but who and what he is. He takes insult quick and reacts even quicker. Words are given in the brief moments before flames erupt and many are those who have been singed by his wrath. He's never found anyone that could restrain his fury at the many transgressions of the world.
Until he met Fait. Something about her, something he cannot understand nor put into words, helps cool his wrath by just her presence. A touch, a look, a word, and Bright Flame becomes less a wildfire out of control and more a precisely-aimed flamethrower. He is her weapon, and though he might fly off the handle should someone insult or harm Fait in any way he will also strike at her command with all the white-hot fury of a Fire Kitsune.
Orange-red is the color of fire's heart, and orange red is the color of Bright Flame. He has no markings save for a spark-gold throat, his crimson-tipped tails, and the blood-red kanji for 'fire' on his brow. His eyes glimmer as rubies that snap with emotion when angry. Given his temper it's no surprise that Bright Flame often manifests the fire elemental balls of his kind in his tails. Beware stroking the lush fur!
Fait was no stranger to the sight of battlefields, though the weapons were archaic. The sight of blood and discarded weaponry was something she was familiar with, though it was alien compared to the battlefields she'd witnessed when she'd still lived on Irk. Had the blood been blue and the weapons been far more advanced, she might have believed she had stepped foot back onto one of the conquered planets.
The salute was met with one of her own, Fait straightening and raising a hand to her forehead in the traditional greeting from one soldier to another. Though she didn't immediately recognize his rank, having never encountered a caradras before, she was certain that she would be able to find a place for him. "We'll figure that out soon enough, Yon," she answered. "If you have a keen eye for gathering materials, there is always room in the search party." She was barely able to suppress a slight flinch when something very nearly brushed against her back, far too close to her Pak for comfort. She turned her head slightly to face the majebe, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Siv," she said sternly. "I would very much like you to refrain from getting close to my back. Do not do that again."
How many times had she witnessed Irkens having their Paks pulled from their bodies?
Luckily she would not be allowed to linger on such dark thoughts for long, and she held up a hand. "There will also be no arguing," she added firmly. "You are simply expected to do as you are told as quickly and efficiently as possible. If you wish to join me, I expect you to get along. You can save any dissension for the privacy of the base, otherwise it will become a weakness that can be taken advantage of." Still, she couldn't help feeling that stab of pride that Ken had already displayed such loyalty to her, and so she rewarded him with his name first. "Ken. Keep an eye on Siv." Then she turned her head towards the sphinx. "And Quan, you'll take the left side. Let's go."
