Nadira saw someone new approach and she fought down the response to threat assess they were all here for the same reason. So Nadira settled in to look at the groups of creatures and think over what she'd say next to them, she knew their questions were important and she wanted to impress a pair. She didn't know the species enough to care too much but she could feel Sigrith in mind and she smiled gently even as she looked at them.
At the invitation to relax Nadira only did so a little bit she was still on edge ready to fight if the need arose and she stared at the creature speaking. The moment the question left his mouth Nadira nodded and smiled slightly as she looked at him, "Well given the people I love are not the vacationing sort, I'd want to take them to my birth place and where I was raised Nanda Parbat." She said as she looked at the group of creatures then glanced at Nessa.
"Since you're new, you answer their questions to try and get them to pick you." She said to Nessa hoping to get her some help. She really didn't want her to lose out simply because she chose not to answer, there was something off putting about that as she looked at her.
Nessa winced not having heard the initial question due to her late arrival but nodded to Nadira before speaking to the question givers "sorry about not answering your first question, I hadn't heard it". Then she looked sad as she sat on a rock "and if I could go anywhere with the one I loved it would be to a safe place for me and my mother...but that won't happen with how I lost her before arriving in this land". She tried not to let the bitterness show as she spoke but it was a tiny undercurrent in her tone and posture as she resumed speaking "as for where and why, I never saw outside my home village much in the swamplands; and most people where I came from would probably react poorly to a Lizardfolk even a halfblood one. So apologies for the vagueness but in a hypothetical answer the somewhere safe would be deep in a jungle where not many would find me or my mother if she still lived and in the case of a young thing from here keeping them safe and happy would be my top priority".
Before she looked at Nadira again "thank you for explaining what was going on here, I'm...still getting used to this place as a whole". Before she fell silent again to wait for another query, still unsure what came at the end.
Kemori took the offer to take a small break, pulling out a small ceramic jar and his personal sakazuki to pour himself a drink and a few bits of dried fruit from his bag. He'd known his trip might take a while and he might miss lunch, but he hadn't expected to be eating it in this kind of setting. Just increased the novelty of the thing, really.
Impromptu meal consumed and everyone settled once more the questions began anew. Kemori didn't answer right away, letting his stomach settle with the sake and musing over things before he spoke, tails casually waving back and forth behind him.
"That's a good one! Where would I like to go with my loved ones, if I could so anywhere I wanted?" He mused for a bit longer, then smiled a touch wistfully. "I can immediately think of two places, though I fear none are here and neither you may have heard of. In the Jade Lands, my original home, there is a mountain that in the common tongue is called the Glow of the Heavens. It is especially beautiful in the springtime when the cherry trees upon it are in full bloom and there are many festivals held to bring members of different Clans to witness it. The scent alone is worth poetry! Many weddings are held there, and it's considered especially fortunate if a petal falls from a tree and touches your brow or cheek. 'Kiss of the Heavens' we call it.
"The other place is a river that runs barely an hour from my family's home. I often went there as a child to play, and as an adult I found sitting beside it very peaceful and relaxed. The grass is soft, and there are places where the sunlight slips through the trees and dapples the ground in gold. The water is clear and sparkling, and at night in the summer there are fireflies..." Kemori's voice trailed off as the thought of relaxing with a picnic on the grass with Jeremi while their bondeds played nearby drifted through his mind. Then he shook his head hard enough to make his ears flick to bring himself back to the present. "Ah, pardon me. That would be my answer, unless you mean a place on Teragaia. In that case, there's an abundance of charming eateries and little hidden coves in the forest that I've uncovered that would be delightful!"
Neither hungry nor thirsty, but not wanting to simply ignore the offered respite, Reprise sank to the ground to sit down where they were. It was interesting, watching how everyone else handled themselves, but to be honest, they hadn't retained a lot of what the others had said. It wasn't that they hadn't been paying attention, more that there were a lot of things to take in at the same sort of time. How were the bond-seeking beings handling this themselves? Maybe they'd had experience or something?
Whatever the case might be, the question they'd known was coming had arrived, and it was tough. At least, it was at first. They knew plenty of places in the land of their hatching which were beautiful, plenty of places where at least a bench or perhaps even a hot spring or bathing area could be found. However, they also knew what besides beauty lurked in those caverns.
Shivering a little, they shook their head for a moment to dispel the images in their head. "I... would bring them here. I don't know many places here yet, and there are really pretty places back home, but... it isn't safe there. If I brought everyone here, maybe they would be safer, and not have to be afraid any more."
With everyone having gotten comfortable and those who had brought food and drink finishing up with their meals, it was time for the questions to resume. As this event was nearing its conclusion, the creatures themselves were already considering who might make the best match. Some of them had already made up their minds, others were still uncertain. Regardless, the Fantasma volan and Cloud mistwatcher pair stepped forward. It took a moment, the Cloud fidgeting nervously and glancing at her other half, but the Fantasma remained quiet as her mate gathered her thoughts together.
Have pick one person for question. What favorite thing about one you love most? Though her words were soft and her sentence structure not quite so clear as some of the others had been, she seemed a bit more confident with her beloved nearby. For the Fantasma's part, though she remained quiet she fixed the rest of the candidates with a sharp gaze as though daring them to make fun of the mistwatcher for the way she stumbled through her words. Not that anyone probably would, with her glare fixed upon them, but she wasn't going to tolerate it regardless. We go sit now please? the Cloud whispered, prompting a nod from her sweetheart as she ushered her back towards the rest of the canines. Clearly she didn't like having all of the attention on her despite it being their turn to ask a question.
The other canines shifted to make room for the pair without question, and the smaller Cloud immediately ducked underneath one of the Fantasma's wings. The volan licked the top of her head. Lovely do well, she reassured, her voice low and velvety despite her fearsome appearance. Clearly there was tenderness there. The mistwatcher seemed to relax at the reassurance.
Meanwhile, the little blue dachshund with wings was practically prancing in place, knowing that they would be next in line. And with the whispered discussion they'd had with their mate, they knew exactly what the final question would be...even if it wasn't exactly something that those present might wish to answer.
This time the question gave Nessa a happy memory to focus on. Smiling softly as she responded "the favorite thing I remember about my mother was her sweethearted Disposition". Then she clarified "despite most people thinking Lizardfolk aren't kind and caring Mother was different, teaching me to care for others and defend them if they couldn't fight for themselves".
She smiled at the display between the recent question giver and her mate. Then continued "as a result I tried to fight unwinnable odds to save her". Here she took a breath to steady herself "and I'd do it again for anyone who needed help, regardless of risk to myself".
With that she fell silent to listen to the others responses. Becoming more confident as she got into the swing of answering the questions posed. As evidenced by her posture being less hunched up and nervous.
Nadira didn't like this because she didn't have one person she loved more than the others and that was difficult to think of then she remembered her half brother Damian and smiled. But also her father, she looked down at her hands mulling over what to say about the person. She wasn't sure she wanted to think of what she liked most of either of them then decided an indirect statement would probably be best since she couldn't pick just one of them.
"The Stubborn Determination to do what's right no matter what. Even at the cost of his own life." She said as she looked at the creatures, Jason was her father but Damian was her brother and both had died for the cause they fought for. Crime was a problem in Gotham and her family fought to keep the streets safe, she was good with what they did and what she did for more or less a living. It was soothing almost to have a break but she loved her family as a whole.
Nadira looked over at Nessa and smiled, "My name is Nadira Todd by the way." She said to her as she looked at the other person who seemed a bit uneasy. She knew that she was nervous and unsure of what was going on at the moment, but she dealt with it and was doing just fine with how things were progressing.
It was somewhat nostalgic, listening to the way the next being to pose a question spoke. Reminiscent of their siblings, actually, not that it seemed like a polite thing to talk about despite their positive view on it. The question itself, well, Reprise was about as unsure as they thought the speaking canine was based on their posture and tone.
Their favourite person was their twin, Echo, and they could think of a whole lot of good about him. He was steadfast and protective, a source of companionship and comfort almost always there by their side. Even now, he wasn't far away, though he'd not come with them to meet these dogs. He listened to them, valued their opinion despite their outlooks being so different. He was, unlike so many of their siblings, alive.
They had to pick something, or the question would go unanswered, at least by them, and that just wouldn't do. It took them a few more minutes contemplation, but the answer was actually fairly simple once they realised what could encompass a good deal of the things they valued about their twin. "My favourite thing about my twin is that he loves me. Family doesn't always, not like in stories, but Echo does, and that means the world."
The new question made Kemori have to think for quite a bit. What was his favorite thing about the one he loved the most.... Everyone gave good answers as he debated it back and forth, then finally ventured an answer.
"It is hard to say, as there are many, many things I cherish about the one I love the most. It's not even easy to say whom I love the most, as I love a great many people in different ways that are each equal in my heart. So I will focus on romance, rather than family love or agape love or a love for those of the heavens. My favorite thing about Jeremi is, with much debate, his kindness not just to me but to everyone around him. He's a healer both at heart and by profession and that kindness shines through every time he takes someone under his wing to tend their wounds. Even when he's cross at them, such as he was at me when we first met haha! Even when he was scolding me his touch was gentle and kind. It is a rare thing to find, on any world. And that answer was a very close win over every other quality I can think of, just to make a point."
Thank you for keeping up with our questions so far, the Angel familiar chirped, their wings flapping excitedly as they practically bounced in place. Though I think a good number of us have an idea of who we have chosen, it wouldn't be fair if we didn't get to ask our question despite being last in line. With that said, they were joined by their beloved Omega as they took the spot of the previous pair.
This one you can refuse to answer, if it hurts to much to think about. I can imagine that would be the case for at least a few of you, the Angel spoke. What would you do if the person you chose for the previous question died, and there was nothing you could have done to prevent it? Alternatively, if the person you chose is already deceased- And here their gaze flicked briefly over to Nessa, How are you coping or otherwise dealing with that loss?
Perhaps it was a grim thing to think about, but all things tended to come to an end at some point. Love could burn itself out if not tended to, and death was something that, more often than not, came for those when they least expected it to happen. Of course the offer to refuse to answer remained for the ones who preferred not to imagine such a thing happening to those so dear to them.
Such an adorable canine, and yet so dismal a topic. Well, Reprise mused ruefully, it wasn't as though the world itself wasn't full of contrasts between what was pleasant and what could be so much nastier. They appreciated the opportunity to abstain, but... they had already decided that it was an eventuality they would have to face up to, something to be prepared for just in case it ever happened.
Taking a slow breath, Reprise peered towards the Angel, steeling themself. "If Echo died, and nothing I could do would stop it or bring him back, well... He'd want me to survive, to be safe, so I'd try to make sure I was safe before I did anything else... If it was foul play, I know he'd want revenge, so I'd try to figure out if I could do that for him without getting myself killed too."
Maybe that wasn't the nicest answer, but life and death often weren't. Fidgeting, they rubbed their arm a little and sighed. "It'd be rough, probably for a long time, but he'd want me to live well if I could, so... I'd keep trying to do that, and be the best I could be."
Nessa for her part stiffened ever so faintly as she was focused on but, she did try to manage a half grin "if I said 'planning to survive and train so next tussle with my mother's killer didn't end in his favor' would that count against me?". Managing to keep her tone calmer than it had been "after all I have no idea how long time passed between where I was and wherever 'here' is so it would be kinda pointless to dwell forever on the loss I hope none of you has to suffer the way I had". Then she looked down at her hands "Nevira, my mother; wouldn't want me to waste away dwelling on what I could have done".
Then she looked up and focused on the Angel Familiar who had asked the question "So beyond training just to beat the one who took her from me I resolved to continue trying to defend others as I come across them in this realm or any other I find myself in". Then her smile became faintly sad "and trying to make friends along the way; it's what mother would have wanted...she probably hadn't expected her lessons of defending others first to stick so firmly is all".
With that she fell silent, listening to the internal thrum of her own heart as she waited to hear what the others would say followed by whatever came next. Trying to maintain the stillness of a tree in the marshlands to center herself further as she worked to let go of the bad memories. As she truly didn't know how time passed between when she'd been beat down and appeared here, it would only hurt more to hang onto such memories. For all that letting go was a process in itself. Though she tried to give Reprise an encouraging smile for their words prior to her own.

The Kitsune couldn't help but flinch at the question. What if Jeremi died, and the circumstances were completely out of his control.
Hard to think about indeed!
"If I were to lose Jeremi, it would be very hard," he admitted after a long period of thought. "My culture has very specific mourning rites that I would ensure were performed, though I know it would be hard. It is designed to allow those who remain to accept the death, and to mourn properly." Though his words might be taken as formal, the tone was thick with imagined pain. "To not be able to prevent it would be equally painful, feeling helpless, wondering if I had been faster, cleverer, if my magic had been stronger or I'd listened to a gut feeling to be in a different place - Well, you get the idea." He ruefully chuckled. "To say the lease, I would mourn for quite a long time, though I don't believe that Jeremi would want me to grieve forever." what he didn't say was that should Jeremi be his 'soul mate' things would be drastically different. It was a serious thing among Kitsune, for all of their playful tendencies. They were well known to have flings and relationships quite frequently, and many outsiders believed they never took even marriage seriously.
But that was an illusion. Though Kitsune would flirt and switch between lovers, once they found their soul mate, the one that their spirit resonated with, they would 'give away their heart.' According to their lore when Inari, the kitsune goddess, requested of the elder gods to allow her people to be free in their choice of future and skill rather than all be set to a single talent, be it martial skill or magic or music or divination or whatever it might be, they would have only one heart to give to another. Kitsune marriages were never a result of anything but this, thus they were vows never broken. 'Only one, once given never to return.' They considered all previous romances as seeking this partner, and never allowed love to fully embrace their hearts until they found their match. While Kemori was still wrestling with the question of whether Jeremi was his match he knew that the pain from their parting would be sharp indeed.
Thinking over her answer wasn't really her forte but she gave her best effort to do just that, she wanted to give them something to think on. So when she finally spoke she did so without hesitation or even questioning her choice of wording, she'd take them to Nanda Parbat.
"I would do all in my power to get them back by any means necessary even if that meant facing down people beyond my power." Nadira said to the pair, "Or I'd take their body back to the Lazarus Pit in Nanda Parbat." She added on as she looked at her hands carefully trying to figure out if that would be her answer but she saw the body of her father and she fought down her emotions. The other answer seemed less on point than the one she gave but her vengeful streak showed through pretty strongly. She was not the type to back down and she wanted to win one of these pairs over to her side, she was that kind of person hopefully one or more would like her.
The Angel familiar bounced in place from where they remained. The excitement seemed to leech from them to their mate, who had been silent almost the entire time. This was the moment that they'd all been waiting for, for what had seemed like far too long. There was no hesitation when the winged dachshund pranced right up to Reprise. You are kind without being naïve, they began. And know the value of protecting those you care about, the hellhound added. And it is for this reason that we choose you. With these words the Angel seemed to melt into a pulsing light that rushed through Reprise, taking the form of a ridiculously fluffy canine with an equally fluffy tail as their Omega mate pressed a cold nose into Reprise's hand.

With both of them having taken their places by Reprise's side, the second pair to make their judgement known were the Fantasma volan and her Cloud mate. They surveyed the remaining candidates thoughtfully, but after a few moments of silence it was the Fantasma who spoke.
You loses much, she declared, her gaze finally settling on Nessa. No replace for what taken, the mistwatcher added softly. But help you feel not lonely? And tracks down baddie, the volan added, a toothy grin upon her muzzle. Together the pair of them approached Nessa, the Cloud pressing herself gently against the lizardfolk's side while the Fantasma beat her wings and let out a victorious howl.

The Tellar had to nudge his mate awake again, a soft chuckle escaping him as the Dust yawned and managed to get to his feet. Like the previous pairs, all of which had chosen to sit near their new Bondeds, they took the center of the circle where they had previously asked their question. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, the Tellar started, glancing between Kemori and Nadira. And because of that, we have decided to choose someone who's way too serious for her own good. And we be choosing Nadi-Nadi, the Dust hummed, the two canines turning their attention to Nadira. Needing to relax, yes. Life not all about fight fight fight all the time. The Tellar chuckled again and nodded in agreement, nudging his mate again before trotting towards Nadira and dipping his head. We hope you will have us.

With both Dust and Tellar taking their spot at their newest bonded's side, Kemori was the last one. And it seemed only natural, perhaps, that a certain Scrimshaw sumine didn't even wait before pouncing on the kitsune, knocking him to the ground and beginning to lick his face! And here I had a whole speech planned out like the others, the Defteros grumbled good-naturedly, shaking his head. Regardless, Kemori, you have won my mate and I over with your obvious loyalty to your other half and we would be remiss not to take advantage of the fact that you have so much in common with us. Luckily his energetic mate finally stepped back, her eyes bright with joy and her tail wagging a mile a minute.
