Tide came to a stop in the middle of the lake, breath puffing up in clouds as she looked up into the sky. It was alive with colors, not just the usual black or even IF mischief. Greens and what looked to be purples danced among the stars that decorated the sky. Almost like an intericate dance. So enraptured by the sight, it took her a moment to realize that music was playing.
Frowning, she tilted her head, trying to figure out the melody. The words eluded her, but...Quickly looking around to make sure no one was nearby, she opened her mouth and vocalized the notes she heard. It was haunting and strange and...Tide had no idea where it was coming from. The lights? A quick glance up at the sky and she decided that was just as likely as anything else on Teragaia.
The soft sound of her skates on ice sounded once more as she moved towards the edge of the lake. A shadow passed out of the corner of her eye and she spun around. What was that?!
Curiosity got the best of her and as soon as she reached the edge, she would be changing her skates for shoes and wondering off to look for the source. As she moved into places where there might be people, she turned her singing into soft humming. Through the streets she wandered. Looking for the source. Just as she was about to call it quits due to cold, she found it.
Or at least where the melody had been leading her.
It was laying on its side. Unassuming and looking for all intents and purposes like it had bounced off a tree in transport to somewhere. Why anyone would decorate a tree before moving it was a bit beyond her. It didn't sound like common sense, but what did in this place? Moving towards it, she picked the ornament up and turned it around in her hands. It was ice cold. So much colder than the surrounding air. Tiny specks of ice were forming on the surface, melting at her touch. She registered for just a moment that it was clear before the flame inside came to life. Letting out a startled yelp, she dropped the ornament, scrambling backwards herself and slipping.
They both bounced at the same time, but whereas Tide stopped after the first one, the ornament continued on for at least three more bounces.
Rolling to a stop, the flame slowly flickered out leaving behind a clear ornament that was once again gathering up ice crystals.
Tide felt herself shaking and knew it wasn't all from the cold. What was that? Should she leave it here? Should she...Standing up slowly, she edged toward the ornament, waiting to see if it would flare back to life again. Reaching down, she carefully picked it up by its cord, breath held as she waited.
And waited.
And waited.
It quickly became clear that the fire wasn't going to come back. At least not anytime soon. Strange. It was all so strange. Blinking, it was about then that she realized that the melody had stopped. Huh...Tide chewed her bottom lip before making a decision, She would take it home and show it to Khareesh. Surely he must know where it came from? Or even if he didn't, then surely he or Jason could...Could what? Tide really didn't know as she held it out in front of her like it might bite her at any second.
Considering what was inside it, it might be a very real possibility.
It would take some trial and error, but eventually Tide would find out that unless someone was touching the surface, the flame was dormant. As soon as warmth seeped into the surface, the flame would wake up and blaze to life. She never got much beyond that, panicking each time the flame came to life. Didn't mean that Tide wasn't going to keep trying to figure out just what the ornament was for.
Not by a long shot.
