Name: Hei Bohai [黑波海]
Race: Ghost, Former Human
Age: 27 at time of death, currently 431 years
Height: 6’ in true form, others vary
Weight: He doesn’t know. Scrawny.
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Gold
Physical Description:
Hei Bohai is a tall, lanky man. He was tall and lanky in life and death has only made it more pronounced. High cheek bones and a sharp jaw line give him an almost predatory look, which isn’t helped by his perpetually narrowed eyes. Paired with his death like pallor, it’s no wonder people tend to shy away from this true form of his. He wears his hair up in a ponytail, and even then, it still reaches the middle of his back. He holds it in place with a guan, typically silver or gold in color, with an unadorned hair stick. As for clothing, he finds himself most comfortable in shenyi hanfu of darker colors, such as deep blues and blacks.
Hei Bohai does have other forms. A young man in his late teens with brown hair and green eyes, better built than his true form. A young woman in her mid-twenties, curvaceous and stern with her golden eyes and black hair pulled into a bun with numerous accessories. He has even once taken the form of a child, with wide brown eyes and black hair to accentuate the baby fat still on his cheeks. It all depends on his mood or what tasks he has for the day.
Personality:
While at first appearing stern and unmovable, Hei Bohai has an underlying soft spot. It is just very, very hard to get to. He carries grudges like hard won battle scars and they are nigh on impossible for him to let go of. If you slight him once, he will remember, and he will plan a revenge that is worthy of the wrong. He has a tendency to push everyone away; friend, foe, lover, enemy, it doesn’t matter. Very few have managed to make it through the prickly outer shell to truly become a friend.
Once you are a friend though, he is far more willing to show the softer sides. Like his love of learning, and his ability to quote most poets. Or the fact that he’s very proud of his handwriting. He spent many years as a human getting as close to perfect as he could. He likes to read aloud and help others piece things together. In another life, perhaps he would have been a teacher. But that life, and his softer side, were stolen when his fate was tampered with. That, ultimately, was what made him into the bitter, cold man he is now.
History:
Hei Bohai’s story is not a kind one. He was born to a merchant family, and they worked very hard to give him a good upbringing. He studied hard, and loved to learn, and he was set to take the exams to be a true scholar. A position that would give him a modicum of power, and enough money to take care of his parents, and his little brother, and his fiancée.
Shortly before he was to take the exams, misfortune befell him as his fate was stolen from him. His family died, one after the other, and his family name was dragged through the mud. His fiancée was stolen, and ultimately lost her life as well. Heartbroken, with nothing left, Hei Bohai went on a rampage and destroyed an entire village. Ultimately, this took his life as well.
In his undeath, Hei Bohai devoured ghost after ghost until he was powerful enough to undergo the trials that brought him from a mere ghost with a physical form, to a powerful ghost that humans everywhere feared. They whispered his title in secret, though a few opted to worship him in hopes for safe travels across his domain.
He existed this way for centuries, and it is only thanks to an error in a distance shortening array, with a little help from the IF, that he finds himself on Teragaia now.
Powers:
Shapeshifting or Skin Switching: The ability to trade out his true form for another of his choice. Crafting a skin takes time and materials, and they almost always have an imperfection of some kind. Hei Bohai is good at it, but he tends to forget about finger and palm prints. With enough focus, he can craft an entire separate being, a clone if you will, and let it run around to do tasks while he does something else.
Water Manipulation: As a water ghoul in essence, Hei Bohai has an affinity to water. Particularly salt water, with a special connection to the sea. He can rise waves and storms in the heart of his territory, which, unfortunately for him, is not on Teragaia. On Teragaia these powers are limited to some water summoning and stopping him from getting soaked in the rain.
Qi or Spiritual Energy: Coming from a world where cultivation leads to a spiritual core, and ghosts can cultivate, Hei Bohai does have spiritual energy. This energy is limited and recharges over time, but it allows him to do things such as light palm torches, craft arrays that can shorten distances or hide things from view, and activate talismans. He doesn’t draw on this power very often, focusing more on his clones and intel gathering, but he is one of the best at creating distance shortening arrays.
Vulnerabilities:
Gluttony: Hei Bohai is constantly hungry. He could eat an entire buffet and still be hungry. He can get bored of eating though and has been known to simply deal with the hunger.
Ashes: Where he hails from, all ghosts have bone ashes. These ashes are the only way to disperse a ghost once and for all. His ashes, crafted into a small black crystal, are set into a hair pin that he never wears and keeps hidden. Crushing this stone would destroy him for good.
Burnout: Using too much spiritual energy will make it so Hei Bohai can no longer hold his form. Clones and skins are the first to go in order to preserve power. If he uses too much after they are gone, he will return to being a ghost fire and have no access to his powers. It can take anywhere from a week to a year to gain the energy back to form a physical form again.
