Wow! What is this? A news post from Kay?
(Yeah, I know it's been literally over a year. I'm hopefully going to improve my admin behavior.)
But what is this announcement about? Something exciting that hopefully you'll find exciting as well:
Database Overhaul!
Before anyone panics don't worry! There's only a single change that will affect any current creatures. More on that later.
The overhaul is mostly pertaining to the layout for species database entries. After trying to make a Pegasus and hunting for five minutes for 'what color can I make this thing?' I realized something had to change. Information was sometimes buried in paragraph text, hard to locate or by mistake absent altogether! So, inspired by how Wikipedia handles their animal entries, I am extracting some basic information on each creature and putting it into a sidebar-style section. this is a sample of how the entries will look using the Astrum.
All the creatures that I have created will also be having a minor overhaul in that except for a few rare exceptions all ranks will be both male and female creatures, and I will be trying to open up their personalities. This will hopefully make creating creatures easier and maybe encourage bond holding.
Now, for that single change that I mentioned before. It involves an error in the Database that's existed since the beginning of Teragaia:
Dragon sizes.
Originally we stated all the dragon sizes as length in feet. But it was intended to be in meters. This was to try and line up with Pern canon which in the books stated the length that way. (Though to be fair, the books to waver back and forth between feet and meters with no word to my knowledge on which is accurate.) With the database update being done we decided to settle the issue for Sundered. It was a back and forth debate that took us several hours, but we have decided to give meter measurement a trial run.
For example, a Blue Mottle like Girith was listed as 35 feet long. In this update that will become 35 meters (or about 155 feet) long.
Overall we hope this change won't affect RPing with the dragons too much, and in truth it might open up a lot of opportunities with the size increase. A 20 foot dragon can do a lot when there's a battle or people need to be carried around, but a 20 meter dragon – just about three times the size – can carry a lot more people comfortably.
(Looking at you, Fenris, and our little battle RP!)

This is a trial run, and if it proves to be too unwieldy we can reverse it. If anyone has any input on this feel free to let us know your thoughts!
Lastly, it has come to my attention that Sundered Weyr is 5 years old! The original site's first RP thread, Entrance to Sundered Weyr, was begun on June 5th 2015. Obviously it's too late to celebrate it properly on its date, but I am hatching plans for July to honor the date nevertheless! What will this entail? Well, it's going to be a month of things for you to look forward to, with CREATURES!
What creatures? Well, be here next month to find out!
