The weather outside was chilly and Gertude watched as snow fell lazily outside. A mug of hot chocolate was keeping her hands warm as her golden dress sparkled in the lamp and firelight. Despite those being the only light sources in this huge space, it was as bright as day in the grand ballroom. She wasn't questioning it though as she glanced over to where the pile of her gifts were gathered. Her's weren't the only pile that dotted the space, but she was fairly sure it was among the tallest.
She sighed and shook her head, sending the jingle bells in her hair tingling and jingling along. This is what happens when I have nothing but time on my hands. There were gifts for her friends and gifts for strangers she had only met but once. Gifts for companions and dragons that weren't hers. There would probably even be gifts for people who just pop onto Teragaia that day. She had been a busy bee and had more than enough to go around.
Reaching out to touch a deep purple wrapped one, she let a small smile grace her lips. Some people were already in full swing, exchanging gifts and laughing the night away. A group had gathered up into a corner with singers and musicians to preform carols. Both the traditional and the no so traditional. She wondered if Rylan, Raferties, and Keldos would show up and join them. She hoped any of them would as she had all their gifts somewhere in this pile and if it ever got back to her that someone took Rylan's gift from him or destroyed it...Well, the silver rider was bonded to two silvers for a reason. Her protective streak was a large one and she wasn't above making sure that Rissi and Jay got a through rubbed down out of the offending parties.
The punch bowl was set up along the wall and she kept an eye out to see if Nec or...She paused for a moment as she gathered up the name. Ah! Kemori. She wondered if either one of them would spike it in their on going war of pranks. She had heard about some of that as rumor spread faster than fact and she had little else to do but listen to the dragon grapevine. Nec's gift was an easy one to find. It was the only one she had used a grey wrapping paper on, finding it so fitting for him.
Some of the food hadn't quite gotten here yet, but she saw at least Lasagna setting up some of what he brought to the party. She wondered if Linah would stick around after dropping off her portion and she hoped so. Gertude had what she believed to be the perfect gift for her. If Linah saw it that way would be a matter up for debate later.
Gertude took another sip of her hot coco as she watched more people enter into the room. Her eyes searched for Jirin. She had sent a message to him, inviting him and stating that he didn't need to bring anything but himself. She had no idea if he was a crowd person or not, but she had to try. He seemed like he needed to be around people more and this would be a wonderful opportunity for him to grab some food to take back to his place. She knew that no one would mind. There was more than enough and she was pretty sure anyone who brought food wasn't looking to take a bunch of it home. If there was a ton leftover, it wouldn't be for lack of trying. She had tried to invite everyone she could get ahold of and told them to invite everyone they knew.
It wasn't like the ballroom was lacking any room.
She looked around the room again, noting familiar faces and new ones. Every time she looked, there were more and more people showing up and she couldn't be happier from it.
Cain lounged in a corner, his own gifts pulled up under his chair. It wasn't hard as there were only four. He didn't have too many people he wanted to give a gift too so his holiday shopping had been easy and relatively pain free. Give or take a dog or two from his own growing pack offering their snide opinions about his choice of gift. They can go stuff themselves up the chimney.
Cain had told them as much to their face and was rewarded with a barking laughter. Enrique wasn't here now though and Cain could focus his attention on trying to track down a few people so the pain of suspense could be over and done with. Unlike Gertude, he didn't feel the need to get something for everyone he met and thus he was far more nervous about actually giving what he had gotten to their proper precipitants. Add to that, he hadn't celebrated Christmas let alone any other holiday for years so he was pretty rusty in just about every department. He swear it was Taki and his companions that had decorated their rooms for the season.
At least, all he could remember was leaving for the day and coming back to a glitter and greenery fest. Toss in the sparkle from the lights and Cain was glad that he didn't need sleep. At least the tree in the corner was a bit more restrain in its decoration. The fact that it seemed to be mirror every few feet along the wall opposite the entrance till it got to the choir wasn't lost on Cain either. He suppose what it lacked in ornamentation, it made up for in quantity. Go figure.
Tide hustled Jason inside from the cold, flurries of snow sticking to her red hair and staying there despite the heat. In her hands was a small stack of gifts, all carefully wrapped in paper that were shades of blue, teals and greens. It had reminded her of the ocean, so of course she had picked it up by the handful. Maybe a little too much as nearly one closet was fully dedicated to it. At least she wouldn't run out of paper anytime soon. So that was something.
Finding an empty seat and table, she set her pile onto it, grinning gratefully at Jason as he came bounding up with some punch (not quite spiked yet) for her and some hot chocolate with a mound of whipped cream for him. Wiggling out of his jacket, he gave her a hug. "I'm gonna go find Zhi! She might be here and if she is, I want to give her gift to her. If not, I can always give it to Linah." With that, he was off and running through the crowd, not spilling a drop of that hot chocolate as he weaved and ducked.
Chuckling to herself, Tide unzipped her jacket and laid it on the back of the chair. Not being able to help herself, she soon enough found a place among the choir to sing.
Mildred came without gifts. In fact, she hadn't even made it into the building yet. Snow dusted her dark hair as her tongue froze from where it stuck out between the corner of her lips. Not that she payed much attention as she carefully craved the face onto her fifth snowman of the night. Or snowperson as the case may be. She had crafted each one with some kind of unique feature. Rather that be a dress or a set of antlers or even looking like they just came back from conquering and were telling their story to a bunch of eager listeners. Each one was something of a masterpiece.
Though she wasn't saying no to anyone else adding to the collection and there were plenty of snowmen made by smaller hands and even some a few adults had tried to complete before heading inside. Eventually Mildred would head in as well...Just after one more snowman.

Hello one and all and welcome to the Grand Gift Exchange! In case you haven't caught on, this is a thread that will be for the exchanging of gifts in character. It will all be done here so considering that, a bit of ground rules are probably in order (despite this not being an adventure or bonding)
- Gift posts don't have to be done here. If you want to use the setting and start your own thread, feel free too.
- You do not have to bring a gift to come here. There is food and drink and company abound. So you are perfectly welcome to come and just hang out with everyone.
- You do not have to respond to everything that is going on. This thread will probably have multiple tiny threads going on within it so don't feel like you have to respond to every single one in order to join.
-Bold the things you want everyone to know. Want to nod at a character? Bold both the character doing the action and who you are nodding too. That way it doesn't get lost in a skim.
-Bold actions or events that affect the entire room please. Your character spikes the punch? Bold it. Your character starts a snowball fight in the grand hall, bold it. People can chose to ignore these events if they so wish (illogical field), but it would be helpful to keep track of everything that is happening if someone wants to comment on the things going on around them (or wish to use it later)
-PCs and NPCs are welcome, as are bonds. Just be aware that this room is only so big, so dragons probably aren't a terribly good idea unless you want to leave them outside.
And that is it I believe. If I notice issues, I will adjust as needed so be sure to check back. Now go and have fun!!! (As an author's note, I know that Jeremi and Fredericke aren't here yet, but if need be, Jam and Kay have full permission to powerplay the respective characters into this setting. Just in case they beat me to it.)
