Welcome to Sundered Weyr!
So, you've joined our little site. You might be asking yourself 'What now? There's a lot of stuff here." It can be a bit overwhelming, so here's something that hopefully will help!
First off, please look at This Post. It outlines a few of Proboard's TOS, as well as giving a few character guidelines. There's also a full list of site rules and such on the Rules link, left hand Information box. Feel free to access it at any time!
Feel free as well to pop into the Welcome Thread and introduce yourself, as well as into the Discord. Never hurts to tell what you're interested in and such - you never know when you might finding another Sundarian who's into the same thing!
Ok, that done it's time for the fun stuff - Making characters!
You are allowed two characters (called Primary and Secondary characters) to start with, though by no means is it a requirement to make two. If you only want one, that's perfectly fine! Further Character slots are unlocked when you reach certain IC post counts. When it comes to character creation, there are only a few points to make note of:
*They must be able to communicate and interact with others in some manner (speech, telepathy, sigh language, etc)
*They must be 13 years of age (or 18 if you think they might end up in a relationship with another character, though if you followed the first step you already knew that, huh?)
That's it!
Now, concept firmly in mind, you make a Profile for your character! This would be done here, in the Archives under Primary Characters and Secondary Characters. Below is a general template you can copy if you want, though feel free to make your own, adding or taking away anything you want!
Name
Race
Age
Height
Weight
Hair Color
Eye Color
Physical Description (general appearance notes, commonly-worn clothing or dress style, noteworthy scars, tattoos, or marks, etc)
Personality
Powers (if any. Even being a skilled warrior or being particularly talented at the guitar could go here!)
Vulnerabilities (because no one's perfect, right?)
Equipment (Just anything that your character owns. This can also be updated as they RP around the site)
NPCs (any side-characters that are attached to this one, like siblings, parents, children, and the like)
And... profile done!
Now, onto Bondings, Adventures, Life Around Haven things, and Events.
Bondings are the primary way that you can attain creature companions on Sundered Weyr (sometimes referred to as 'shinies' or 'companions'). Bondings that are currently active are listed in The Wilds (Bondings). Simply read the bondholder's introductory post, and if it is still open follow any rules they have and post away! If you're fortunate, a new friend might just follow you home from it.
Adventures run much the same way, only with Adventures participants aren't there for a new friend; they are there because something has happened that needs fixing like a disaster threatens the Weyr, ruins need exploring, or anything that you can imagine happening in a classic adventure novel. At the end of an Adventure, the Adventureholder will award Bonus Points (or BP, more on that later) and sometimes items or other goodies for participants.
Life Around Haven posts are casual, no-time-limit RPs that are either open to anyone or privately arranged between individuals. For every 5 posts made, a player is awarded 5 BP after it is ended and archived.
Events are site-wide things, usually grand story arcs that open up new species for Bonding, trigger new changes in Teragaia or Haven Weyr, or otherwise progress the world's history. These are big deals, rewarded by large sums of BP for participation.
The awesome thing is you don't have to wait for one thing to end to join another. Join everything at once if you want to! The sky's the limit!
Lastly, a note on Bonus Points and Shop Coins.
Bonus Points are points that are accrued via a number of means that can be 'spent' at the Veiled Shrine to purchase new companion shinies at a rate of 5 BP per rank star (the * beneath the rank names in the Database).
Shop Coins are a special Currency used in the Shops to buy things to customize your Bondeds, whether it is changing colors, adding patterns, adding extra limbs or horns or even if you save up enough acquiring your very own Dream Creature, a fully customizable, make-it-whatever-you-want-it Friend for a character. ((BP can be used in the Shop at a ratio, as well.))
For each new character you may go to the Veiled Shrine and post In Character to claim up to two stars (**) of free companions (so either two * or one **). These are utterly free, costing no BP to claim. Just a little friend or two to start you off on your adventure!
I hope that this guide has been helpful. If there are any questions, please feel free to PM me!
