He didn't know what he'd expected, but a light floating in the air then flying right through him was not it! But, it hadn't hurt him. Quite the opposite, the sensation of calm was almost physical as the feline nose touched him. "Nice to meet you, Belerin."
Nec smiled at Frisk before leaning over to Dominic, "Just breathe", at the same time picking up the glitter egg, cracking it against the table. Though he knew it was hard, Nec also knew nobody would want to, (or get the chance), to hurt him. Happy to see Jess joining, he grinned at her and winked. "Want me to ask Sealgair to stop by?"
Of course just then Mildred decided to give everyone at the table an impromptu shower, but it was pretty warm out after all!
The unfortunate truth was Telmaril Frostfall looked exactly as silly as he felt. There he was, a statuesque elf decked out in healer white, rocking back and forth like some monstrously oversized metronome in hopes of balancing the un-balance-able. Yep. Ridiculous. Laughable, too, and that was precisely what Tel did, chuckling heartily at his own silliness.
Perhaps in response, the egg he’d selected split in three places, depositing an appropriately ornate piece of paper in his outstretched palm. Blinking, Tel held the slip up to the light and squinted at the hand-written text thus illuminated.
“Good for fifty shop coins. Interesting.”
Since his first attempt had ended so well, Tel went in for round two, carefully scooping the rainbow egg up off of the center table.
“Yes!” Dust did a little happy-dance on the spot, Crow zooming excited circles around him. “Nice job, bug, that was perfect-”
Their celebration was abruptly cut short by the arrival of... something. Something new and interesting and quantum-vibrating, cutting through dimensions in a way that immediately brought to mind the dimension-hopping Taken and the accurately-named Vex. Thankfully for the rest of the gathering, and for a certain Guardian’s stress levels, what actually popped out of the warp was neither mechanical fiend nor shadow-spewing monstrosity. It was...
...a bird? A bird with a name, and with eyes that spoke of battles won and lost and too many witnessed.
Dust liked him immediately.
“Well hello there, Ineros. You, uh- you kinda startled me there, bub. Maybe don’t do that again?”
Amused assent flowed through their newly-minted bond. For the moment, it was good enough. Eager now, Dust turned back to the table and homed in on one of the few remaining eggs- the Half/Half Red-Gold Egg!
To be perfectly honest, Jess had almost put her chosen egg out of her mind. Her attention was fully on Nec and his game of marbles. ...and, of course, on the Changeling’s inevitable snark.
“Oh, Sealgair stayed home?” Jess shot back, eyes bright with humor. “You’d better make sure all your other bondmates are accounted for when you get home. Hopefully she didn’t get too hungry while you were away!”
And then there was something large and powerful and oddly feathery all up in her business.
Jess did not scream. She absolutely did not scream. She did, however, squeak and cover her mouth before any other unseemly sounds could escape.
That was a gryphon. A large, imposing, distinctly martial gryphon. Y’know, one of those catbirds that Aphadon had drooled all over. And he was talking to her.
Didn’t that violate some unspoken rule of the universe?
“Hightower, please never scare me like that again,” She spluttered at last, dragging both hands over her face in a vain attempt to drive away her blushing. “You’re too big to be that sneaky.”
No fool Jess, she promptly popped to her feet and padded over to grab the green egg. Time to roll the dice again!
Raeneth would have found the cymbals, but in her state, she was too intrigued by the fact that there was an egg in her hands to actually investigate. Instead, her drunk fingers released the item. She scrambled to catch the egg, but it fell to slam against the edge of the table instead.
Well, played or dropped to ring on the surface either way, the cymbals would ring out quite well and clear, more chiming than crashing in the manner of their larger kindred.
Then as they resonated to settle, the chiming instrument vanished and a Red Mushroom remained in its place! How unique!
Cain suppose he shouldn't have been too surprised that an egg that was a sort of puzzle would lead rise to two sphinxes. What he was more surprised at was that these were sphinxes he had seen before. Shaking his head, he suppose Layton and Sycamore was more than ready to settle down. And they chose him.
Well. At least they weren't canines.
Mildred
At this point, Mildred had decided she hated water. First Kemori. Now this...Whatever the heck it was. Wiping her hair back, she would apologize to those that got wet before turning her attention to the water cat shark thing. "Well, Shale. No one ever said you didn't make an entrance."
Tidesweep
Tide nearly jumped out of her skin when Goose appeared, but she would welcome the coastal with open arms. She had no secrets to hide after all and embarrassment usually wasn't a thing she was too worried about anyway.
Jeremi
Jeremi wasn't going to lie. After the shower from Mildred's new companion, the last thing he expected was a gryphon to be standing in front of him. But he wasn't about to turn Richard away. Not by a long shot.
Fredericke
Fredericke would let out a startled squeal at the sudden appearance of an eyeball. Bringing the telescope down, she looked Nomura over carefully before grinning. "Glad you think so. And as for interesting..." She rocked back and forth on her heels, hands going behind her back. "We can totally find that out later."
Having wondered where his room mate had disappeared to and possible shenanigans she was up to, Rune had left his home. Knowing her tendencies he would have trekked to places where other people would be.
Of course his search didn't take long, coming into the area to see the large table and her squealing with excitement. He knew she was fine now, could simply walk home and ignore the dinosaur like being there... But instead he decided to see look at the eggs laid out, many already gone.
He would look over the remaining before picking up and opening the silver egg.
Ixeh
Having heard of the eggs going to be there Ixeh had decided to come. The town had become beloved location with so much joy, some of the bleakness of her old life having been wearing away.
She would pretty skip up along the table, letting the egg that called to her best be her guide. Eenie. Meenie. Miney. Mo!
Picking up the eggs wrapped in ribbons she would pop it open to reveal the surprise.
Retsom
He would have trekked along, spotting his cousin and many others opening eggs to moments of excitement. Maybe he could get one but... Eh.
He would start to turn away when his Mathis would scramble off his shoulder, disappearing quickly amongst feet and popping back up at the table.
Following his companion he would carefully navigate over. One moment his attic would be in sight and next he would be hiding behind the eggs. About the point he reached for the little guy it would move behind the string wrapped egg, leaving Retsom holding that instead.
Taking the hint as the athid began to rapid fire questions about why and how the egg was wrapped he would go ahead and open it.
Frisk The cream egg would be surprisingly simple to open, the 'shell' feeling loose and segmented so all it took was some pushing and jiggling to get it open. Within was a small slip of paper that simply read: Look across the table.
And across the table where there hadn't been anyone before was a flash of light and glimmers that was visible for the merest second before they dashed across and through their chest painlessly. And appeared on the other side in her final form.
Hmm, yes. I can learn a lot with you, I feel.
Bond! Knowledge is Eternal Scholar, Thalalia to Frisk!
Dominic The Stained Glass egg was probably the only egg that hinted at having something within visually even before it was opened, as upon close inspection Dominic would see a few small segments that were translucent. But what lay within would change with ever glimpse. Typical IF!
One panel would actually be hinged, pivoting open and letting a tiny pair of shiny spheres fall into his hands. Perhaps those with more understanding of oriental cultures like a certain sadly absent Kitsune would identify them as meditation spheres, the kind that chimed soothingly as they were rotated against one another in the palm. And it would only take a couple of passes before they attracted attention...and a fluffy, feathered-winged feline with a very colorful color scheme hopped daintily into his lap.
You look like you need some mothering, she purred, and hey weren't there studies and stuff about cats in the lap being comforting?
Bond! Mother of the Stars Female Nebula to Dominic!
Nec The glitter egg would be just as one might expect a glitter egg to be, that is transferring glitter to Nec's fingers and anything else that happened to touch it. All part of the fun right?
Nec may have intended a gentle crack on the table, but what would happen instead could probably be blamed on the IF: the egg exploded into a detonation of glitter that would be temporarily blinding... and clinging, turning the Changeling into a shimmering version of himself. Kemori certainly would be laughing himself sick had he been present.
Was that really necessary? a voice all-but snarled, a frustrated, put-out Sharpblade trying to clean glitter from his face. Well, I suppose it could have been far worse. Nec would be scrutinized before the reptile would nod decisively even as a Rune mark such as carried by several other residents would form itself on the Changeling's body. I think we might just see eye to eye.
Bond! For my Kin, I'll Take Any Road Katana Sharpblade to Necthan!
((Also, you can choose the location of the Rune mark.))
Telmaril It was a good thing that Telmaril was careful when he picked up the rainbow egg as it would feel far less tangible than it appeared. In fact, the more he handled it the less tangible it would be, until it simply faded away into nothingness leaving a vague clean sensation.
Or perhaps that was the presence of the light that flew through Telmaril from behind and formed in front of him into a new friend!
Bond! Find the Cure, Save the World Scholar to Telmaril! ((Also, I know this was fairly non-descriptive. The description I have for him was vague and slightly incomplete, so either I can complete it or you may!))
Dust Thankfully for Dust the half gold-half red egg would be much simpler to open this time around, just a little bit of pressure along the division between the two colors and it opened with a soft pop!
Inside would be a piece of paper that, when pulled out and further inspected, would be an Arcane Script! Nice!
Jess The green egg would faintly have a scent like the ocean though it would feel like a normal egg otherwise. Trying to open it, the shell would 'peel' away in a single piece, leaving a single piece base of shell in her palm. And of all things a necklace would be there, one of simple cord and Zaithand teeth. Such as they commonly gave to their Bondeds as gifts.
Hmm, that might explain the Zaithand that was suddenly at her side, perhaps.
You will be a fine addition to my Cove, she proclaimed, just as I hope I will be a good addition to your family.
Bond! The Majestic Crashing Waves Ocean Queen Zaithand to Jess!
Rune The silver egg gleamed in the light, almost enough to make an onlooker believe that a silversmith had a hand in its creation instead of a chicken and a painter. A little examination revealed that the egg twisted open in almost a stair-step manner, first the top then a segment below and a segment below that and so forth until it was completely opened to the bottom segment.
And inside the base (yes, it shouldn't technically be sitting there because of the twist opening but IF) was a Red Mushroom! Better than a raw yolk, right?
Ixeh Much as the appearance suggested, to open the ribbon-wrapped egg would involve Ixeh unwinding all the ribbons that were twined and layered upon it. She would amass a small pile of ribbons by the time the last one came away, and the egg would actually not be an egg, but a single Zaithand tooth on a hemp bracelet.
Such as was within the mouth of the grinning Zaithand who was watching her with a keen eye.
I'm glad you got through that ribbon so fast; it was very hard to wait!
Bond! The Wild Typhoon Estuary Male Zaithand to Ixeh!
Retsom The string-wrapped egg would end up being wrapped in a single very, very long piece of string that shifted colors back and forth as it was unwound. At one point the egg spun almost like a top in his hand! Finally the end of the string was found attached to the top of the egg, and with a gentle tug the egg split and opened like the petals of a flower.
Nothing. Hmm...
The the string was given a gentle tugging on the trailing end of the string. Looking down, Retsom would see an ebony feline with feathered wings, barely more than a kitten, batting at it. Though it wouldn't be in play per say, as the kitten would look up at him with one of the cookies balanced on its other paw quite carefully.
Oooooh,hellonewfriend!MynameisHenrietta,it'slovelytomeetyou!AndthisisCaspurr,he'sFrisk'sotherfriendthoughtherearemorewaitingforuswhenwegethome! Henrietta chirped excitedly. Caspurr purred in amusement before trotting over to inspect the newest addition to their family while Frisk smiled slightly at her in response and nodded. I hope I can live up to your expectations, Thalalia, they signed in response. She seemed like a kind Familiar, and they knew she would fit in with the rest of their interesting family. When they could return home, they hoped to introduce her and everyone else to their mother. Let'sgetanotheregg! Henrietta declared, hoping for another new friend as she darted over to try and roll the white egg over to her bonded.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The youngest Kimasa chittered excitedly at the prospect of having another new addition to their family, and Dominic reached out to gently stroke the feline's soft fur. "Thank you for picking me. You didn't have to," he admitted. He had to come up with a name for her...and a name immediately popped into his head. How could he not name her after a constellation, given that she was a feline born of the stars? "What do you think of the name Carina?" he inquired, hoping that she would like it. Receiving a soft purr of approval of the new name, he smiled a little only to have the red egg practically be dropped into his lap by the eldest child of the Kimasa.
The face Nec had made at the glitter sticking to his fingers (he should've expected that) was nothing against the face he made after the explosion of the stuff! Anyone laughing would likely get a handful of glitter thrown at them, there were more than enough, but Nec was soon distracted by the reptile half-snarling behind him.
Turning to look at the creature, recognizing it as the Sharpblade it was, the changeling looked him up and down in return. "I'm not the one who had to make an entrance like that. But if it was the IF I advise you to get use to it." Brushing himself off as well as he could (which didn't amount to much, given glitter's nature), Nec felt a tingling on the front of his left shoulder. Hm. Weird but not worrying, so eh. "Mind if I call you Mirum?"
Settling back, he didn't move to pick up another egg, but decided to stick around to catch up with those he knew, and get to know his new friends as well.
You’d think, after Hightower’s impressive entrance, that Jess would have expected something large and imposing to burst out of her second-choice egg. ...and you’d be sadly mistaken. In fact, the way Jess squinted at her egg suggested she expected it to lay quiescent forever more.
Which might explain the most un-dragonrider-ly yelp she let out when a second mind pressed against her own, right as the egg in her hand folded down into a necklace precisely her size.
“Goodness gracious, Pacifica, you scared the daylights out of me! And... wait, is this for me?”
No fool Jess, she slipped the necklace over her head and grinned down at the Zaithand fairly beaming up at her.
Oh yes, they were going to get along like peas in a pod.
And hopefully they’d get along with whatever was in the Orange Egg, too. Only one way to find out- by scooping it up and hoping for the best!
Now, Tel hadn’t exactly struck gold in his first attempt. His egg had contained an admittedly valuable-piece of paper and nothing more. That made a certain Scholar’s dazzling entrance all the more startling. Stardust swooped around him, quick and indistinct and somehow jittery, and then dove through him-
And out popped a somewhat harried-looking Utahraptor all in shades of drab.
“...well hello, Anemos.” The words came out on autopilot. Really, what else was he supposed to say to someone that full of nervous energy?
Sighing, Tel turned back towards the eggs on offer and rolled the dice one more time, this time with the Red-Blue Stripe Egg.
And then there was Dust, who had precisely the opposite of Jess. He’d braced for a critter, maybe a gryphon or a sharpblade, and- and there was a piece of paper! The exo did a little dance, much to Crow’s chagrin, and tucked the slip into one of his myriad pockets.
“Gonna have to give that to Harpy,” He decided, green optics fairly dancing with glee. “See what comes out on the other side.”
<< Nothing nice, >> Crow grumbled, << And we both know it.>>
Not to be outdone, Dust rubbed his hands together and grabbed the last egg- the yellow egg!
The white egg rolled in its wobbly way across the table, and as it did so it seemed to unroll itself like a paper towel roll when you drop it down an incline! By the time it reached Frisk it had completely unraveled itself a feather lay on the last fragment. It fluttered in a breeze, then blew away...
...to smack into the face of a Gryphon standing nearby. He blew it away with a puff.
I've traveled quite far, he said to them, and I think together we will travel even farther.
Bond! Ferocious Anger Belongs to Beasts Order of Squires Male to Frisk!
Dominic
The red egg would feel a bit... sandy? to the touch, though visibly there wouldn't be anything to it. Opening it would take a bit of codebreaking, or perhaps lockpicking, as squeezing the sides would reveal a seam. But not one that opened like a typical plastic egg that the zombie might be more familiar with. Rather this would be more like a medicine bottle with an addition: Squeeze, twist this way until it clicked, twist another way until it clicked, then back again for a final click, then POP! It opened!
A small fountain of warm water was the reward like the spray from a whale, then (try to figure the logistics of this out at your own risk!) a creature 'jumped' out from the egg to land lightly on paws before Dominic; a Zaithand. He favored the other with a serene smile, showing all those lovely teeth of theirs.
I bet some people are afraid of you, he murmured in a smooth voice, but I don't see why that should be. You're just you, and that's all there is to it. You seem perfectly nice to me.
Bond! Ocean of Glass Tributary Male Zaithand to Dominic!
Jess
Surrounded by friends, Jess would find that the Orange egg was quite a treat - literally! The orange coloration would actually be a foil wrapper for a chocolate-orange egg, hollow inside by the feel and sound of it. Inside would be a shimmering Seasonal Star with a Pink Springtime Flower on it, perfect for a Bonded who might like a springtime makeover!
((I can make the design on a creature you desire if you want, or this can be saved as any mutation item.)
Telmaril
Barely had the red-blue striped egg touched the healer's hand than it leapt up and straight out of it again, landing on the ground with a CRACK that shattered it in a small explosion of dust that was momentarily blinding. When Temlaril could see again, a Gryphon would be standing there, shaking his wings out to resettle the feathers.
Ah! she cried, almost a hawk-like screech of triumph, about TIME I was able to get out of there! She looked around, finding Telmaril quickly and grinned as much as a half-avian could. Yeah, I've been looking for someone like you! Someone who might be able to patch me up after a good scrap that is. Think you can handle it, m'lord?
Bond! Rage Can Sunder Mountains Order of the Blade Female to Telmaril!
Dust
The yellow egg would be smooth and feel a little heavy in Dust's hand, yet impart a sensation of calm and confidence. The Guardian would feel something strange - a tingle on some part of his anatomy that now sported a rune mark in silver-blue, then when he turned back and Egg would be gone, just vanished.
And standing before him would be a regal Gryphon with the bearing of a knight, a Champion, in his every atom.
You know, he said quietly, voice further echoing the bearing the eyes revealed. You understand, personally, what it is to fight, to give everything for others regardless of the cost to yourself. Those who threaten what we hold dear will regret even considering it.
Bond! A Courageous Champion who Gives his All Male Honor Gryphon to Dust!
And that's a wrap everyone! Thank you for participating in my little Event, and I hope everyone had fun. Remember, you will need to Name-Claim those that need it and to check with the Database if you're not sure if a species has any Naming conventions.
Until next EVENT! (Impending, lol! Look for it around July!)
Now this was more like it! Jess had barely begun to tinker with her egg when the outermost layer peeled away, revealing rich chocolate around a hollow core. Grinning, Jess cracked the egg open, sharing the pieces out among her bondmates, taking the last piece for herself. The script wound up tucked in one pocket, waiting for another day and another shiny.
This time Telmaril was braced for impact, and that turned out to be a damn good thing. The instant he made contact with the latest egg the thing fairly exploded out of his grip, vanishing in a flurry of dust and... feathers? The elezen threw up an arm to shield his eyes, and just in time too. The next instant there was a flash and a screech and a sudden wash of leashed rage that brought Saomarah to mind.
“Halone,” He growled, rubbing the stars out of his eyes, “That sounded like a challenge. And I accept.”
Dust hefted his egg, briefly marveled at its weight, and-
And nearly staggered under the impact of the mind that pressed against his.
Ineros had been a faint whisper against his consciousness, the faintest brush of a hand and the merest suggestion of a voice from afar. This presence stood tall and defiant in the face of adversity, unafraid to march forth and meet whatever threat rose to the occasion. Its- no, his! voice rose above the clamor, steel bared and banner pale against the sky. It reminded him of someone he’d known, someone he’d admired, and a name bubbled to the fore almost without thought.
“Zavala,” Dust breathed, and groped for the gryphon before his knees gave out from beneath him.
Later he’d discover a blue rune emblazoned upon his left shoulder, bright and vibrant against the weathered copper that comprised his frame, but for now... for now he clung tight to what felt like an old friend returned and let himself keen.
Frisk smiled gently at their new friend, pondering what name to give him. He might have been a little ruffled in appearance, but it was what on the inside that truly mattered in the end. "Selvan," they whispered, reaching out to smooth down some of the feathers atop his head. Caspurr tilted his head, purring softly in welcome while Henrietta chirped a greeting from where she had settled on Frisk's shoulder.
I think it's time we travel home, then. We have a few introductions to do, and I'm sure that you and Thalalia will fit right in, the goat monster signed with a smile. -----------------------------
Carina stepped back from the spray of water as the Zaithand made himself known. Dominic shifted a little when his new apparent friend pointed out that it was likely some were afraid of him, and odds are that was true. Luckily he didn't seem too thrown off by the zombie's appearance and Dominic allowed himself a small smile, feeling relieved at the acceptance. "Thank you," he replied softly as he tried to think of a name for the other. He was a nice color, something that reminded Dominic of autumn leaves even with the gold... Maybe he could work with that?
If he remembered correctly, there was a wide variety of trees that could turn golden in the fall, though he admittedly couldn't quite recall all of them. Maples were one, he knew, and linden was another. But there was another tree that was actually called the autumn gold tree, and he had the feeling it would suit his new companion perfectly. He perked up when he finally remembered. "I'll call you Ginkgo, if you like that?" he suggested.
