Gregory Smart spends almost his entire fortune on one of the special dream clouds from the yuan-ti woman’s relic shop. Finally, he can create an all-powerful being that will answer to his every whim! He just has to get this right. You can only open the bottle once and there’s no shoving the creature back inside once it’s out, after all.
He brings the precious bottle to his workshop, ruins in the forest, and begins drawing up plans for his new creature. At the advice of his associate, Jezyvhena, he models it on the Mhorag’dhena, a race of genie-like serpents with great and terrible wish-granting powers. HIS Mhorag’dhenn will be a giant anaconda in size, but sharper, jagged with crystalline frills and protrusions, its otherworldly color setting it apart from any mortal snake. It will obey him, and it will grant his every wish.
And it can start by finding a pretty woman.
Satisfied with that thought in mind, Jeremy carefully wiggles the cork out of the bottle, upends the bottle, and lets the cloud within take the shape of his dreams.
Jenna Wakeland is minding her own business, manufacturing cloth from plant fibers at her weaving station, when the blue smoke billows up from the ground around her and takes the shape of a sharp-edged serpentine thing.
Greeetingsss, Misstresss mine, the creature hisses almost companionably, sinking silky talons into Jenna’s mind. Your wisssssh isss Nanzhai's command.~
Jenna had the uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach that something Dangerous had just tied its life to her own.
“No no no no NO!” Gregory snarled, watching his dream cloud bond to someone else entirely.
“In all fairness, you were probably wishing it would find a hot girl,” snarked Rulayne, who was not herself a pretty girl, but she shared Gregory Smart’s interest in the diabolical arcana. “Mission accomplished, it found a hot girl.”
