"Your name might be a little different, but I'm glad you aren't being made fun of for it," Dominic hummed, idly tracing the pattern on Nec's horn. He had to admit that he liked the color of them; they were a bit different to Zinnia's own curving ones.
He then moved his hand away. "What did you occupy your time with after coming here?" he inquired. "Other than trading, I mean." He tilted his head, seeming genuinely curious about his new older brother's activities and hobbies.
"There's stranger names around. Mine is Scottish, if that tells you anything." Unlikely, he realized, Dominic wasn't from his own world after all.
"I hunt a lot. That's mostly what I trade or sell. Started by accident, but it's a decent income. And I like to travel, so I'm starting to get a few contacts here and there. In my spare time I spar a bit, mostly with Keldos and Anari. Trying to learn how to use a staff."
Dominic listened as Necthan spoke, and though he did recognize what Scottish was, he wasn't all too familiar with Scotland or what kind of names were popular there. He hummed softly. "Are they angelic or human or...?" he inquired, wondering just how capable Necthan was with weaponry; he certainly didn't want to find out, he wasn't capable of regenerating limbs or anything like that. What he had was all he had.
"Keldos is an angel. Archangel, so a warrior. Anari is-" He paused, and thought. "You know, I've never thought to ask, but she looks human, so I'm going with that. Never given a hint to anything else at least." He shrugged. He didn't really care what people were as long as they were decent and preferably fun to be around.
"Another angel? Where do you keep meeting them?" Dominic asked with a slight smile and shake of his head. He wouldn't mind meeting Anari so long as she wasn't too bothered by the idea of him being a zombie and all; he wasn't exactly out to eat human flesh so maybe they would get along? Then again, he wouldn't know how she'd react to him without Kimasa nearby.
Those are the only two I know of here. Briefly met their sister, but she went back home again as far as I know. And I happened to meet them both my first day here. He took out the last gumm-gumm."
Nec noticed Dominic's apprehension and patted his shoulder." She's cool. Anari patrols a lot, so you're likely to meet her anywhere with people, but I don't know her as well as I know Raf. Yet. But I'm sure she'll like you too."
Well, Teragaia was a big place so maybe he would be able to avoid running into them. But how far was he willing to go to do that? He couldn't just leave his companions behind, that was for sure. But Anari sounded like a safe bet even if Necthan didn't know her as well as he seemed to know the angels. The zombie wondered if he would ever get used to meeting new people...probably not, but at least he was trying, right?
"You haven't been to the village yet, have you?" it was a guess, but Nec suspected he knew the answer already. Dominic may not like people, but it wasn't a good idea to stay isolated either. "We could go by later, there's less people late in the evening, but at least you'll get a bit familiar."
Dominic looked a bit sheepish but he shook his head. He hadn't been to the village yet, mostly since he wanted to put it off for as long as he possibly could. But Necthan seemed to be insistent on him going regardless, and he nodded albeit a bit reluctantly. "I'm not good with a lot of people..."
"You can't become a hermit, and it's not necessarily safe to not get to know people. Im not too fond of crowds myself, but you'll live." But it wasn't like the townspeople would come and get him, that's not what Nec meant. More that if he had friends, and someone hadn't seen him in a long time. They'd come check on him to make sure he was okay. Nec wouldn't be around 24/7 so it was just an extra safety net.
"I'm not a hermit, I have you for a friend and everyone I met near the odd building near my home," Dominic answered, frowning a little. He wasn't accustomed to having large groups of friends, but Kimasa, Cookie, and his other companions were helping him get used to it slowly but surely. It would just take him a little while longer than most to deal with crowds due to some degree of social anxiety and bad experiences in his home world.
"Well, then you got a good start! And I'm not gonna drag you there at the most crowded time, dude, I just don't want you missing out. But I get how crowds can make you feel." Nec might not be bothered by crowds, but he certainly knew how the feeling of being exposed could ruin a day, or week.
Just then the IF got tired of playing with the sandcastles, so they turned back to sand and started crumbling from the shapes. Because of course the IF hadn't thought to change back the shapes too, so the thin, pointy spires fell, taking with them other chunks.
Dominic seemed slightly relieved at this reassurance, some of the tension leaving his body. "I don't think I would be," he answered, a slight smile on his face though he glanced over at the sand castles that they had built as they became one with the earth once again. He felt a little disappointed at that, but they could always come back and build some new ones when Necthan had time.
"I would have liked to take a picture of them if I'd had a camera," he murmured, more to himself than to Necthan. "Oh well. I doubt there are any out here, or in the village." He glanced up at the tall changeling as though for confirmation of his assumption.
"Not that I know of. The most technological I know of is a coffee machine. Well, two, one in the weyr and one in the village. But I can keep an eye out if you want one. Dunno how things come here, if it's the IF or something g else, but apparently tech is just found. Anywhere. Bit often but... ". He shrugged. He didn't know enough if the workings of Teragaia to explain it.
Dominic chuckled quietly at his brother's response. Everything was so much different here in Teragaia, where cameras and video games were practically unheard of. Not that he minded all that much, but it would have been nice to be able to take some pictures every now and again despite not being an aspiring photographer. He wouldn't mind some way of recording the memories he made here.
