Akisk nudged the eggs into a line up almost like a chess game but without the Pawns, it was clear she had a plan for the babies, it was the kind of plan that would leave others wondering. But Takin didn't wonder he simply sat back to watch the chaos about to unfold. He wanted the babies to be bonded and soon, he set aside the food for the babies with knives there as well just in case. Eveisk was off to the side the Nadur was the "Sire" in Akisk's mind but she knew that wasn't true. So while Takin set up she made sure that all saw the Queen Egg, it's shell had a very faint golden glimmer to it and that was what Akisk thought it was.
It Time She said as Takin reached out to Brixath and using the Dragon Network told the Weyr and all that the Hatching was imminent. He made sure to mention people could come watch the babies make their choices! surely people would enjoy this!
"To all who attend please bow to Akisk and then stand over by the Porridge and the knives, when the wherlet picks you, it will speak to you and then you have to cut your hand and create the blood bond. If you do not make the cut the wherlet will make one for itself." He said as he showed the bite scar he had on his leg from Takinsk. "So trust me you want to make the cut." He told them as he looked at the gathered people.

Nessa - doesn't realize she might walk out with a new friend
Nessa blinked when Loraeth sleepily informed her of an impending hatching A hatching is coming, you should go watch Nessa! Teppei stretched as he too mentally prodded her I'll go with her, just in case something happens; you all are more daytime wakeful as is. Nessa smiled as her other friends in the weyr settled back down, aside from the big winged canid but Integra sent a wordless sense of 'go we'll be here'. So it was that Nessa and her nekomata friend made their way to the area the summons had apparently come from.
Seeing the eggs she blinked "a few of those look bigger than the egg Loraeth came out of...but they're all shining with health too". Though she hadn't intended to bond she still politely bowed to the mother "I sincerely hope your babies hatch well Akisk". Then she stepped to the side somewhat near the table of food for the babies but not too close to the sand either. Teppei for his part silently sat in a shadowy corner well away from the eggs or the possibly testy mother. But watching the event nonetheless.
Linah had gotten the message from golden Mialuth that there was a battle wher hatching. And the queen dragon was somewhat excited, because she didn't actually know what a "battle wher" was. She hadn't even met watch whers yet! (Linah didn't want to introduce Linsk yet, as the white was a bit of a temperamental and hostile creature and Linah was afraid Mialuth might get hurt.) So she wanted Linah to go, and then come back and tell her all about everything, because Mialuth was a curious dragon that just wanted to know things.
Of course, actually getting to the hatching was a different story. Linah had tried to get away alone, but that wasn't to be. Ashes swirled around the Immortal as she walked the length of the Weyr to the Hatching Sands, and they formed up into Munchy. Canine, still, and trouble, always.
Nots leave me, Munchy growled. Stupids wench.
The Hatching Sands had their usual dragon eggs in various states of hardening, of course, but off to one side was a clutch of smaller, wrinkled eggs watched over by a creature who was most definitely not a dragon, though she was clearly related somehow. And with her, a brown dragon, and his rider, probably also the bondmate of the probable-battle wher. There was also a nadur present, although Linah couldn't say why.
Linah heard the instructions to bow to the queen. Clearly that didn't mean the queen dragon on the other side of the sands, so she approached the battle wher.
"Lovely clutch you have," Linah informed her, bowing politely.
To the man with the information about whers, she smiled. "I brought my own daggers, it's okay. Trick'll be keeping the cut open long enough. My albin-uh, white, Linsk, had to bite me pretty hard, back in the day. I'm Linah, one of the junior weyrwomen around Haven, rider of Mialuth. Nice to meet you."
That said, she took her place by the table with the blood porridge and the knives that she didn't need (Bronze Age daggers would do the trick nicely, and they were ever-present in her waistband, along with the sword tucked into her coat, although she hoped she wouldn't need that!).
Nots smart place put eggs, observed Munchy, looking between the battle wher queen and the gold dragon that was glaring red-eyed daggers at her for imposing. In theory, there was absolutely enough space on the sands for the battle wher to take a little bit for herself, but in practice gold dragons were strange and jealous creatures when they had eggs on the sands, their usual personalities replaced by paranoia, resentment, and barely-suppressed rage. She nots happy, over theres. Hehehehehehehe. Mad dragons. Fun!
"Munchy, don't be a shit disturber."
Truth informed Aletha about the alternate hatching on the Hatching Sands. Deciding that whers -- watch or battle -- were not child-friendly, Aletha made sure Melorius was safe in Elzathiel's care before she came down from her weyr.
She cut an imposing figure, dressed all in black. She'd foregone her usual armor, knowing that she'd be blind and deaf for three whole minutes if her armor got struck by anything, which rendered it useless. Still, her outfit and cloak were impressive and Poetic Justice was still at her waist, ready to be drawn in flames if necessary.
Aletha strode across the sands with the arrogance of a woman who knew without question that she belonged there. She listened to the brownrider's instructions, of course, she wasn't without the ability to be respectful (and going in uninformed was stupid, and Aletha wasn't stupid).
Shoulders square, chin high, Aletha approached the queen as a regal bronzerider fully worthy of equal respect, and cut a magnificent bow. In silence, she straightened, and joined the errant goldrider at the table with porridge and knives. Because Poetic Justice was a sword, not a knife, and because it wouldn't cut Aletha, the blackguard took hold of one of the knives from the table and cut a line in the side of her off-hand. Not the palm, she needed the palm, but the edge around the side of the pinky.
"You didn't have to do that yet," the curvy goldrider pointed out, tilting her head at Aletha. "They haven't even broken shell!"
"I find it best to be prepared."
You need to get out of your weyr, Mistress. Your pups need you, yes, but you need time of your own if you're to care for them, Teosi pleaded. Pleading was not the Hellhound's usual gimmick, but Melonwei had been holed up in her weyr since Calaeron's death, even going so far as to give birth alone, unaided, to her twins. She had food delivered by dumbwaiter to her weyr from the Kitchen Caverns, every weyr was equipped with a fully functional bathroom, she didn't really need to leave.
Except that she did.
Manaran is literally built for babysitting, you know this. Let me take you to the Hatching Sands, at least that far.
The twins were down for a nap, and Melonwei emerged from the darkness to approach her faithful hellhound. Her mocha complexion was pale, her hair brittle. She'd not been taking care of herself beyond what was necessary to ensure she lactated properly for her twins.
"I cannot stand the pathetic wheedling in your tone, Teosi. Very well, to the Hatching Sands, but no farther. Let this be our golden hour of social revitalization."
She was in Healer Hall green with the shoulder knots of a greenrider, very far from the white robes of a Veiled Sister. White robes would have been cooler, the Hatching Sands were always uncomfortably hot, but folks tended to mind those.
She listened to the instructions, and hopefully the queen wher didn't mind Teosi's presence, because the hellhound wasn't leaving Melonwei's side. To be completely fair, however, he bowed when Melonwei did. He was a respectful creature, after all.
When the time came for cutting, Melonwei had her bone-handled kris in her waistband.
It was not the Dragon Grapevine that got Tamara's attention. Actually it was her Patron, the demon king that gave her power. He'd suggested maybe she find her way to the village, and from the village up to the..."Weyr", they called it? So Tamara had hopped onto Fiadh's back and ridden her way up.
Folks seemed oddly okay with the woman riding a giant wolf. They only started giving her strange looks up around the Weyr-way, and this, Tamara gathered after a few passing comments, was simply because most people...rode dragons here?
Eventually Tamara dismounted and Fiadh simply walked with her, a horse-sized shadow. These are not the dragons of your world, Tamara, nothing so impossibly ancient. Well, the wild dragons here are a different kind of ancient, but the Pern-bloods...I'll catch you up later. Better yet, ask a Harper.
"I take it from your wholly inadequate explanation that Pern is a place?"
Yes, sorry. The world from which the tradition of the Weyr comes in the first place. And whers, although I think "battle" whers are an off-Pern variant species.
Tamara followed instructions and bowed as indicated, and then took her place by the table. She had her own knife, though. Her vorpal halfling rondel, which never left her side.
Follow me! Xiantun was right happy to lead the way. So happy to, he grabbed Chester up in his mouth and bounded off.
Alxian apologized to Imlueth for leaving her only half oiled and went to chase his errant battle wher down.
At some point, Xiantun dropped Chester, but now it was about retrieving the bastard, so Alxian remained in pursuit. He didn't have to chase long, as Xiantun was only interested in fleeing as far as the Hatching Sands. ...oh.
"You must be the one Xiantun found when he got out," Alxian observed of Akisk, bowing. "Hopefully he didn't cause you too much trouble." 1317 words Golden Hour May word lists
Void was only briefly unsure about attending the hatching- they weren't sure they were the right bond for a Battlewher, but the thought was pushed from their mind by the innate curiosity they held for the world around them. Though Void could levitate on their own, it was still much faster to catch a ride with Cassi, their Roc. Landing in the Weyrbowl a good distance from the hatching sands- Void didn't want to disturb the parents, after all- they slipped off the back of the owl like avian and nodded in thanks.
"As always, thank you." They said, stroking Cassi on her feathered neck. "No need to wait around for me." The sleepy Roc nodded wordlessly, taking off again to find somewhere to nap.
Walk-gliding towards where the eggs were set up, Void took in their surroundings- the others already in attendance, as well as the food table set up to the side. Void chided themselves when they realized they didn't even think to bring food. Still, they listened and nodded at the instructions, taking the time to bow deeply Akisk, their 'hair' was worn loosely and as such flowed down around their shoulders, sparkling gently with starlight.
Afterwards they slid over to the group waiting by patiently, eyeing the knives- they wouldn't need one, but it was good they were provided for those who were less prepared like Void.
Edrei on the other hand was more than prepared- as soon as she heard of the Battlewher hatching she eagerly packed up a small bag with supplies and made her way to the Weyr. Entering directly into the hatching sands, Edrei paused to check her bag- a pack of dried and raw meats, a few rolls of heavy duty bandages, her favorite knife (sheathed, of course), and a few other miscellaneous things she thought may come in handy.
Ever since learning of the Dragons and Whers, especially Battlewhers, Edrei had been determined to bond at least one. She always had a soft spot for the Dragons back in Eorzia- though she learned quickly the ones on Teragaia were quite different. She was determined to be a good bond, and she felt there was always room for more in her bond family.
Thoughts of her family back from before she found herself transported here swam at the back of her mind, but she pushed them away firmly. There was no time to be wistful right now.
She approached, finally, and listened intently to the instructions. Bowing respectfully, Edrei only let her eyes wander towards the eggs afterwards, looking over each with wonder. She made her way towards the food and knives set up for the candidates, a hand absent mindedly feeling the sheathed dagger in her bag.
Dark Knight Egg began shaking and moving, it eventually cracked the shell the visible hide is a very dark almost black hide. It was smaller so not a Black Star Sapphire, the baby that had hatched sat disoriented in it's shell. The baby blinked several moments before it looked among the candidates that were present, he was curious and sniffed at Linah then turned and walked down the line more. He was very curious and wanted to figure out which of these people was his.
The egg that had been dubbed True Knight Egg hatched and out tumbled an Opal, he has an iridescent hide and he is very much a pretty fellow. Though he didn't waste time deliberating he chose his Bonded right away and as he did he let out a squeak as one of the Rook eggs shook. He didn't like the feeling of them and he needed to protect Melonwei, he knew she was his bonded. Melosk. Food. He said without preamble or much thought he wanted and needed to create the bond. He eyed her hand or her leg, he'd take either if she didn't offer the blood.
BOND! Congrats Melonwei Melosk, The Truest of Knights Opal Battlewher
Bonded To: Melonwei
Mindspeech: f9a374
Personality Description: Opals are usually less noble than this boy but he is the very pinnacle of what it means to be a Knight. He is fully willing to be Just and Brave protect those who need it, he is going to fight to be the best he possibly can as far as protecting others and that means he will strive to be free of all restraints that would break his honor. This includes anyone who tries to belittle his Bonded, he will protect her no matter what and he will stand at her side always. He is the sort of Knight that will protect those in need especially those weaker than himself.
He will put up a strong defense of those weaker than himself and those who are in need, he is absolutely one of those idiots who charges into things. He will die with his honor not live without it, he has his own code of ethics that shows in how he treats his Bond. He knows that the place she came from was horrible and bad, she was deeply wounded and he'll go to the grave before he allows another to hurt her like that again ever. He's willing to tear people apart to protect Melonwei and her children. He is what some would call a True Knight, he has his beliefs in Gods but not necessarily the Gods that Melonwei does, his are more like Mother Sky and Father Earth and so on, he will absolutely tell Melonwei all about his limited faith.
Melosk wants to be the one that keeps her safe, but he also knows she has a dragon and so he may not always be needed. If he's not at her side protecting her then he's at the side of the twins and protecting them, if anything even remotely threatening approaches those babies he'll kill it and wait for Melonwei to tell her what he did as he wants to protect those around him.
Physical Description: This boy seems to have an iridescent hide that shows every color of the rainbow. He is a well built handsome boy, he stands at 6’ tall and 12 feet long. Lean and lanky he's the kind of boy that does his best to show off. The tail blade is little more than a bone dagger but it's not the size it's how it's used!
