It had been a night of blood and terror.
The Kry'kathar Tribe of orcs had been initiating their youth into adulthood, and where in the past it meant an excess of easy-to-acquire food for the Crowd now it meant a hunt.
A Ylz hunt!
They had nearly been caught unawares but for a happenstance forewarning by a hunting party. At first they had taken the proud recourse and had stood terror ground. The orcs numbered less than ten, the Ylz a dozen and a half strong. They held the high ground. It should have been an easy victory for the canines and a warning to the orcs.
But everything went horribly wrong.
First the orcs somehow caught wind of the hunting party and doubled back on them.
Six Ylz down.
Then when the remainder of the Crowd faced the orcs they managed to cause some of the rocks the canines were standing on to break away and tumble, sending several of the Ylz to the ground and throwing the rest off-balance.
Another five slain.
At that point, with only three of the orcs taken out of the battle the Matriarch made a hard choice:
She howled for what remained of the Crowd to retreat.
They ran for the rest of the night, losing another two members when a flung orc spear cut him down.. They crossed the mountains in the dead of night and didn't stop until the dawn sun was rising, collapsing on the grassy plains. Come what may they could run no further.
But their pursuers had been left far behind. For reasons of their own they wouldn't cross the mountains. The remains of the Crowd could rest in peace. And they did, sleeping until well into the next day. It was only then that they took stock of their few numbers and their options.
Though there were some arguments, by the end of it the Matriarch saw only one option that would save their lives....
Two days later in the middle of the Haven Marketplace five canines the likes of which hadn't been seen before had taken possession of a shady patch of grass beneath a tree, watching every passersby and looking smug. Some battered, some slightly injured, some with matted fur that they'd tried to groom as best able, but smug.
The Ylz had come to Haven.

Rules:
As usual, Site and Proboards rules apply.
For now one character per player. There's only five of them.
Feel free to do whatever you want. Approach to chat at them. Offer food. Ignore them. Try to pick a fight. What have you.
For... reasons... I need to know if your character has any damage preferences. What you're okay with happening, what you're not, etc. Don't worry about anything being permanent, unless you specifically tell me otherwise.
