Tucked underneath a rocky outcropping, harsh winds ruffling their soft fur, rested two small kitsune cubs. They looked half-starved, for food was hard to come by in this environment, but it was a far cry better than where they had come from. The little female with dulled yellow fur was shaking, her stomach rumbling with a hunger that was never sated for lack of food, and her companion wasn't in much better condition though he seemed to be trying to comfort her the best he could. They knew they would not be able to survive for long, not on their own like this with both being far too weak to hunt, but neither would voice it and in the little female's case, she wouldn't be saying anything at all as she had been born mute.
It's going to be okay, I promise, the brown cub whispered to his companion, but his words would ring false even to him. He knew that their odds were slim, but all they could do was either hope they could somehow find food, or that someone would come along. But looking at their surroundings, such a thing seemed doubtful at best. The little yellow cub already seemed resigned to her fate, curled up in a tight little ball and her eyes firmly closed; she would not allow herself to watch her companion die, though it certainly wasn't because she cared. She knew if she saw him, smelled him, her hunger would lead her to eat his corpse. That was the last thing she wanted to do.
They had to hold out just a little longer. Just a little longer, and everything would be fine. After making it this far, they couldn't afford to die.

It isn't hard to tell that this one-tailed kitsune is a child that has lived a very hard life. Her body is very thin to the point she looks like she's been half-starved, and she seems to be unable to or unwilling to speak. This little one has difficulty hunting for herself and therefore isn't picky when it comes to food whether it be bread, rats, or even other sapient creatures though she seems to prefer meat; the fresher it is, the more it fills her tummy. Notably she is terrified of anything larger than herself, and she won't hesitate to run in the opposite direction as fast as she can or hide in a place where she cannot possibly be found, using her limited magic to mask her scent until the perceived threat has gone away. In the place she came from, discovery meant death and the last thing she wants is to end up as someone else's meal despite having no qualms about making others her meal to satiate her hunger. She doesn't seem to care much about the fates of others, so long as she can ensure her own survival.
Despite her nature, however, this cub is still very young and prone to bouts of playfulness. She loves playing hide and seek when she's not doing it to save her own life, and she also likes jumping from high places onto people's heads where she will try to balance as long as she possibly can without digging her claws in; she might not want to be helpful, but that doesn't mean she wants to harm others unless her hunger takes over. When this happens, one might spot a completely black figure out of the corner of their eye, looking much like herself, but it will vanish the moment it's looked at.

This cub is a prime example of what happens when an Earth kitsune is forced to grow up in horrific circumstances, surrounded by sorrow and evil. Though not litter mates, he and his fellow cub did come from the same place but he has taken a far different approach than she has; rather than let indifference consume him as it has her, he would prefer to give what little light he can to other people in dire circumstances. Because of this he is prone to taking in other creatures be they sapient or normal animals, so his bonded shouldn't be surprised if he shows up with a gaggle of orphaned chicks trotting along behind him or tiny chipmunks clinging to his fur. Despite being in the same half-starved state as his companion, he prefers to let others eat before him, and he will nibble away whatever scraps that are left behind since his stomach can't handle as much food at the moment. It is recommended for his bonded to start off small and slowly increase the size of his meals until he can eat normal portions again.
He is terrified of large bodies of water and, oddly enough, the sound of drums. The reverberating sounds remind him of dark places and heavy footsteps that shake the ground, of distorted faces and reaching hands. He's not nearly as playful as his friend but he is the more responsible of the two and is normally the one to keep her out of trouble. The reason he is searching for his bonded is so that he doesn't have to live in fear any longer and so he can begin overcoming the horrors of his previous life.

Hi everyone, and welcome to my first ever small bonding! Originally I was just planning on doing one creature, but after learning that the minimum was two, I decided to go ahead and make another one.
Be careful though, they're very skittish around larger shinies! I wouldn't recommend bringing any dragons along.
